About Unbroken:
Shaun Cassidy’s “Unbroken” Rodeo Drama Gets an NBC Pilot Order
“UNBROKEN is a unique, emotional, and aspirational project that we are thrilled to be making with Shaun Cassidy and Universal Television,” said Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment. “It expands our portfolio of dramas and is the kind of show that we are looking to be in business with as we continue to grow our slate.”
The drama revolves around the world of professional rodeo. It follows a young woman who, after the death of her father, returns to the family ranch and discovers that the cowboy way of life is not as simple as she thought. The series will explore the cowboys and cowgirls of the sport as they put everything on the line to stay atop the competitive leaderboard.
Cassidy will write and executive produce the drama, with Jeff Eastin (Graceland) also executive producing. The project hails from Universal Television and Jeff Eastin’s Graceland Prods. NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke said that the network is looking to expand its portfolio of dramas and Unbroken is a “unique, emotional and aspirational” project.
Some of the networks’ pickups are affected by the most recent breakout hits every broadcast season. Following the box-office success of Paramount Network’s ranch drama Yellowstone, NBC has given a pilot order to Unbroken, a drama from Shaun Cassidy, and Universal Television-based on New Amsterdam executive producer Shaun Cassidy.
Three dynastic ranch families on the central coast of California make love and war in a passionate fight to survive in UNBROKEN, written and executive produced by Cassidy. In UNBROKEN, three dynastic ranch families on the central coast of California make love and war in a passionate struggle to survive, ultimately setting the stage for a group of young cowboys and cowgirls to redefine professional rodeo.
The name of the studio is Universal Television. It is a subsidiary of Universal Studios Group, which is part of the larger Universal Entertainment Corporation.
NBC has given a series commitment to the survival drama UNBROKEN, marking the third drama pilot order for the network in this cycle, following earlier pickups for QUEEN OF THE SOUTH and BLINDSPOT. Shaun Cassidy (The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries) will write and executive produce the project, which is based on his original idea and expands on his feature screenplay about rodeo cowboys and cowgirls.
