On-Location shooting in Los Angeles is slowing down according to a new report.
According to the latest report from FilmLA, on-location filming continued to drop in the second quarter in nearly all categories of film and TV production.
That said, the new reports saw a surge in shooting for scripted TV shows including “Euphoria,” “Westworld,” “Snowfall,” and “Ballers.” That said, those shows all received tax incentives through the California Film & Television Tax Credit Program. Shooting days for TV dramas increased from 17% in comparison to last year with 842 days. Meanwhile, TV comedy shooting saw a 3.2% bump to 485 days. TV pilot shooting increased 149 das from the previous year.
Film shooting dropped 17% from 1,184 days Q2 last year to 986 this year. The commercial industry shooting also took a double-digit 20% drop.
The reason for the drop is several major productions were filming in Los Angeles last year including “Captain Marvel,” “Bumblebee,” and “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. FilmLA also reports a lack of sound stages as a significant factor in the drop in filming in Los Angeles.
“Although our latest report reveals a decline in filming on location, local production facilities tell us that they are operating at capacity,” FilmLA President Paul Audley said. “We’ll be looking at soundstage production again this fall to put some of these numbers in context, and examine demand and opportunities for new local infrastructure investment.”
