Atlanta is slowly becoming the home of the film industry.
With the release of Divergent last weekend, its sequel, Insurgent, has officially been greenlit. Lionsgate CEO recently announced that he plans to continue the series. “We’re confident that ‘Divergent’ is on its way to becoming another important franchise for us, and we have just greenlit the second film, ‘Insurgent,’” said Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer.
If you don’t know, the films are based on the books in Veronica Roth’s best selling trilogy about Tris, a 16 year old living in a dystopia and does not fit in anyone of the society’s five factions.
Although Divergent was primarily filmed in Los Angeles and Chicago, where the stories are set, Insurget and Allegiant will primarily be filmed in Atlanta starting in May.
Insurgent will hit theaters on March 20, 2015. The release date for Allegiant is March 18, 2016.
