Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 10 “Them” Recap and Spoilers
The Walking Dead has returned from its midseason hiatus that has so far been downright depressing.
During last week’s episode, we said goodbye to Tyreese, which took nearly 40 minutes filled with hallucinations and long monologues.
In this week’s episode, the zombie survivors were finally given a chance to mourn Beth and Tyreese’s death. The episode focused primarily on Maggie, Daryl, and Sash as they try to grasp the loss of the two characters, while also focusing on the future of the zombie apocalypse.
The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 10, titled “Them” started with the group splitting apart to search for supplies. Maggie (Lauren Cohan) used the time to cry, while Daryl (Norman Reedus) had a light lunch eating worms.
With no food, water, or supplies, the group starts walking towards Washington DC. But, it is eerily clear that everyone mourned the loss of Tyreese and Beth differently. Father Gabriel tried to get the survivors to open up while, Sasha chose to shut everyone out and ultimately, put everyone in danger.
This episode centered around death and mourning of family and friends. But, the group’s deteriorating emotional state was further exacerbated by a water shortage, and their really close encounter with stray dogs. No matter how desperate the group becomes, it is clear they are no longer as trusting as they once were. A mysterious supply of water that magically appeared and the group showed that they would rather be thirsty than to believe in the kindness of strangers.
Ultimately, “Them” is a necessary episode. It illustrates how death has a serious impact on people mentally and emotionally. In addition, it provides time for the characters to think about what recently happened to the group of survivors.
But in the last 5 minutes of the episode, a new face appears, “A Friend” who left the water, and seems to know a lot about the group.
But who’s the new mystery guy? Here’s what you need to know about comic character Aaron.
[SPOILER WARNING]
The newcomer and new series regular Ross Marquand made his debut as Aaron in the last few minutes of the episode. Aaron’s arrival comes after Robert Kirkman teased that Walking Dead would be introducing a prominent gay character from the comics during the second half of season 5.
In the comics, Aaron is one of the recruiters with his boyfriend Eric for the Alexandria Safe-Zone community.
Alexandria which as been rumored as the next location to be featured on AMC’s Walking Dead, is also the longest-running location featured in the comic book series.
After meeting with the Governor, some members of the group are extremely suspicious of Aaron and the help he is offering. While it’s unclear which direction AMC is taking the group but, according to the comics Aaron winds up fighting alongside and becomes a key friend to Rick and ultimately help expand Alexandria into a thriving community.
