Selena Gomez reveals she had to go through counseling after getting body shamed.
Body Shaming affects everyone including celebrities. One celebrity in fact says she was so disturbed by the body shaming comments that she had to go to counseling.
Selena Gomez was fat shamed after showing off her new physique while in a bikini in May. And the criticism was so bad, the 23-year old singer had to seek professional help, she told UsWeekly on Wednesday.
‘I've been working in therapy,' the ex-girlfriend of Justin Bieber confessed. ‘I'd land at the airport and people would yell out, “You're fat!” It was awful.'
Selena Gomez also revealed that being called fat was new to her.
‘I've been working since I was seven,' the brunette told the publication.
‘This was the first year I ever dealt with anyone talking about my body.'
Selena Gomez added, ‘Even if I did gain weight, I'm fine. That's what the picture represents.'
In the November issue of Flare, the Wizards of Waverly Place also addressed her fat shaming.
‘I was really bummed when I found out all that stuff was going on,' the Spring Breakers actress said, noting she was in Mexico at the time.
‘And that's when I was like, “I'm so tired of feeling like I'm being pulled down by something.”‘
The Spring Breakers star insisted to UsWeekly she has only grown from the negative experience.
‘Each year, I'm becoming more who I am. I have a little more self-awareness. I feel confident and free. I'm not going to hide in my room and be depressed,' Gomez said.
Selena Gomez also opened up about appearing naked on the cover for her new album Revival. ‘Being naked it amazing,' she gushed.
Even though it is clear she has been working out, the singer/actress appears to have shed any extra pounds she had in May.
‘I spent a year on it,' she said.
‘There were moments when I was like, “I can't do this, I don't know what I'm doing.” I was the executive producer and had full control. The pressure pushed me to greatness.'
