Casting Call for Director of Photography for Feature Film

Job Description
An award-winning writer, director, and producer is seeking a visually strong Director of Photography (DOP) for a lean, auteur-driven micro-budget feature film. This intimate, festival-oriented arthouse project is designed as a minimal, fully realizable independent production with a strong visual identity.

The film is a plot-driven road movie in the genre of myth road noir, centered around two main characters. The story emphasizes strong inner emotional states, minimal dialogue, and a naturalistic film noir aesthetic using natural light, shadows, and subtle visual storytelling.

This opportunity is ideal for a young cinematographer seeking a first feature (or early feature) credit, including those coming from an AC or camera assistant background. Style and visual sensitivity are valued more than an extensive list of credits.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the writer/director to develop and execute the visual language of the film

  • Design and implement a naturalistic film noir look using natural light and shadow

  • Lead the camera department and oversee all cinematography-related decisions

  • Work within micro-budget constraints while maintaining strong artistic quality

  • Support a cohesive tone and thematic vision throughout production

Requirements

  • Strong visual storytelling skills and artistic sensibility

  • Interest in auteur-driven, festival-oriented arthouse cinema

  • Ability to work collaboratively and responsibly in a trust-based creative environment

  • Open to emerging cinematographers seeking a first or early feature opportunity

  • Commitment to cinematography (not individuals primarily seeking directing roles)

  • Professional mindset and reliability during production

Compensation Details

  • Honest micro-budget fee

  • Accommodation and food covered during production

  • Creative responsibility and authorship within the visual direction

  • Festival exposure

  • Opportunity for long-term collaboration

  • 12 shooting days
