“Rutka: A New Musical” is set to make its compelling world premiere. The story, drawn from the real diary entries of 14-year-old Rutka Laskier, details the struggles of teenage life—friendships, love, and the everyday alongside the extraordinary challenges of their circumstances. Job Responsibilities:
- Participate in all scheduled rehearsals and performances.
- Develop character nuances under the direction of the director and through collaboration with the cast.
- Work closely with the music director to master musical numbers, incorporating indie-rock and folk sensibilities.
- Engage in promotional activities, including media appearances and interviews if required.
- Contribute positively to a team environment that reflects the diverse world we live in.
Role: STASIA
- Gender: Female
- Playing Age: 18+ to play approximately 20 years old
- Vocal Requirements: Strong singing ability with a capacity to mix/belt to at least a C/D note.
Character Brief: Stasia is portrayed as a deeply loyal and kind individual with a secretive edge. As Rutka’s confidant and elder ‘sister,’ she provides a grounding yet humorous companionship. Stasia’s character wrestles with the harsh realities of their environment while maintaining a veneer of optimism. She embodies a mixture of resistance and denial in the face of unfolding war, making her a complex and compelling character.
Requirements:
- Must have strong singing abilities with indie-rock and folk sensibilities.
- Ability to convey a wide range of emotions through both song and performance.
- Previous theatrical experience in musicals preferred, but not mandatory.
- Willingness to work as part of a diverse ensemble, respecting and reflecting varied cultural backgrounds and gender identities.
- Availability for the entirety of the rehearsal and performance schedule.
Compensation:
- Contracted salary of $1,100 per week, adhering to LORT (League of Resident Theatres) standards.
- Other benefits include potential for performance bonuses, housing for non-local actors, and per diem while traveling.
