DEAN: Male. Black or Biracial. Late teens – early 20s. A gifted athlete with dreams of becoming a pro hockey player in the NHL. Schooled by his father with a never back down or turn the other cheek mentality, Dean is an eighteen-year-old prospect who clawed his way to building a reputation for his high-end skills. However, under his talent lies a vicious mean streak that surfaces repeatedly on the ice. When his involvement in a violent altercation that sent an opposing player to the hospital results in a season-ending suspension, Dean is banned from playing competitive hockey in the United State and fills the void training and working for his father’s roofing company. When a second chance arrives to get back in the game as a lateseason replacement for the Hamilton Bulldogs in Canada’s top junior league. Dean leaves his home in Detroit and heads north to pursue his dreams. On arrival, the rookie shows flashes of brilliance on the ice. But his polarizing attitude and volatile temper costs his new team critical games that alienate teammates and his Coach Ted Chadwick. As the Bulldogs prepare to host the biggest showcase in Junior hockey, the Memorial Cup, he struggles to find his place while mounting pressure from his domineering father takes a toll. A saviour comes when he meets Jessie, a star athlete who also happens to be his coach’s daughter. Unlike anyone he has ever encountered before, a romance develops that unlocks a new perspective for Dean. He even opens up to Sutton, his team captain and forms a close bond. As he emerges, so do hard realizations that he must overcome to achieve true greatness in the game he was born to play.

JESSIE CHADWICK: Female. Late teens-early 20s. Athletic, smart, strong-minded and a talented hockey player in her own right. Jessie is a walking hockey encyclopedia who grew up around the game her entire life. She was raised by a single father and former NHL defenseman who is now the head coach of the Hamilton Bulldogs. Jessie has returned home after completing her final semester at Boston College where she set several records in NCAA hockey. Now at a crossroads, she must decide between an uncertain future in women’s hockey or give up the sport she loves to attend medical school. When Jessie first meets Dean, she is both put off and intrigued by the polarizing young man. Jessie sees the raw talent Dean is gifted with and can’t help but feel there’s more to his explosive temper at first glance. As the attraction between them grows and true romance unfolds, Jessie disarms Dean and gets under the surface of his hard facade. She offers a path for him to channel destructive impulses and focus on winning for the TEAM — and ultimately who he is playing for. Through it all, Jessie rediscovers the courage to follow dreams of her own…
