The Walking Dead Spin Off is Official: AMC Hires a New Showrunner
Since the announcement in September of last year, there has not been much word about The Walking Dead spinoff. But, AMC is moving ahead with the series and has decided to bring aboard Dave Erickson to become the showrunner and oversee the development, co-write and executive produce the new Walking Dead series.
Dave Erickson previously worked as a producer and writer on AMC’s Low Winter Sun, which ended up being cancelled earlier this year. But, prior to that Erickson had written 17 episodes of Sons of Anarchy and had worked as a writer on Canterbury’s Law. He is set to work along side Robert Kirkman and gale Anne Hurd on the new television series.
In September we heard that AMC planned to launch the spin-off series in 2015, but it looks like AMC plans on taking their time on the series. We are still not to sure what The Walking Dead spin-off will be about, but Robert Kirkman commented that it is not technically a spin-off, because none of The Walking Dead characters will actually be involved. Technically, it will be more like a separate series following a different group of characters in a different part of the world dealing with the same zombie apocalypse.
