Black Mirror: Bandersnatch actor Will Poulter has quit Twitter following a backlash to his role in the Black Mirror episode.
Will, who plays Colin Ritman in the “interactive film”, says he needs to take a break from social media.
Some people started calling Will “ugly” after his appearance in the show.
“In light of my recent experiences I am choosing to take a step back, of sorts, from Twitter,” he wrote.
He also thanked people who had commented on the show for their responses to the show “whatever they may be”.
Comments about his appearance were posted after Bandersnatch came out on December 28th. Will announced he was leaving Twitter less than a week later.
“As we all know there is a balance to be struck in our engagements with social media. There are positives to enjoy and inevitable negatives that are best avoided,” he said.
“It’s a balance I have struggled with for a while now and in the interest of my mental health I feel the time has come to change my relationship with social media.”
Will added he would continue to tweet for several anti-bullying organizations.
“I hope that this shift to reduce my personal expression and increase the focus on issues that matter will result in a better outcome for everyone.”
Bandersnatch is about the dark and difficult adaptation of a book into a video game by a group of software developers and has several different endings.
In the show, Will plays a game creator – and he’d tweeted to say he was “nervous” about the episode’s release.

When the episode is accessed by a computer for the first time, a short tutorial instructs viewers to “ “keep your mouse or trackpad close at hand,” as different storyline options are presented throughout the viewing.
Viewers are offered a simple “Yes” or “No” as to what might happen to characters in future chapters.
Netflix also says that should a user stop the show and opt to start from the beginning removing all previous story choices.
Bandersnatch follows the story of a young coder who helps create a computer game inspired by an adventure novel. Bandersnatch is also the title of a real-life 1984 game that was developed for the ZX Spectrum that was never released, according to CNBC.
