Holly Coggan

Hi! My name is Holly Coggan, I’m 16 years old, and I’m 164 centimetres tall. My story actually actually didn’t start out in theatre, it started in competitive gymnastics, which I did from age 4 to ten, I was training about twelve hours a week, which really taught me discipline and how to work hard to achieve what you want, but when I tried musical theatre for the first time, I realised performing gave me a feeling nothing else ever had. It honestly felt like I’d finally found where I belonged. Since then, I’ve thrown myself into everything I can. I’ve been dancing for 5 years and have experience in tap, jazz, hip hop, musical theatre, acting and drama, and I’ve been singing for basically as long as I can remember. But for the past two years, I’ve been taking private singing lessons, and my voice has grown so much — especially my belting and being able to control and strengthen my head voice. This year I also joined the senior choir, which has pushed me even further to be able to sing not just by yourself but in a group. And recently I started learning the piano, because I really want to understand music more like harmonising, and sight reading. Acting is also a huge passion too and what i’m strongest at, I have done drama class all throughout high school 4 periods a week. I love being able to step into a whole new character stepping into there life and being able to share there story with the world, I love how I can change an audience members perspective whether thats making them laugh or maybe making them cry it shows my emotion has reached them. I’ve been cast in a lot of cool roles, some of my favourites were— being the lead in once upon a mattress last year at St andrews college as princess winnifred , and then this year earning a major role as Mrs Mayor with the Court Theatre new zealands largest theatre company in spongebob the musical , which was a massive moment for me. I was lucky enough to have gotten in to the institute for American musical theatre 4 week summer program in New York where I will train in all types of dance, singing and acting in July next year.
