Academy Award nominee Brie Larson reveals her thoughts on the #OscarsSoWhite criticism concerning this year’s acting nominees.
If #OscarsSoWhite was a T-shirt, you would see it on every runway from New York City to Milan. Because nearly everyone is jumping on the bandwagon bashing the latest Oscar nominations.
Following Jada Pinkett Smith, Spike Lee, Will Smith, George Clooney and Mark Ruffalo, a new actress has stepped from behind the curtain to bash the Oscars. This time it’s Brie Larson. Brie Larson is most known for her appearance in the Academy Award nominated movie Room and the 2012 comedy 21 Jump Street.

But, this time around, Brie Larson is tackling the Oscar nominations issue head on. After thanking The Hollywood Reporter for “covering thing very unique moment” of her life about her rise to stardom, the actress took a moment to call out the #OscarsSoWhite controversy.
“Personally, I’m interested in reading [THR‘s] article on #OscarsSoWhite,” wrote Larson. “This is a conversation that deserves attention.”
She is just the latest actor in a string of actors to address the issue. Mark Ruffalo, who is nominated in the best supporting actor category for Spotlight said he is thinking about not attending the award show this year.
“”I’m weighing it, that’s where I’m at right now,” he told BBC News. “I woke up in the morning thinking, ‘what is the right way to do this?’ Because if you look at Martin Luther King’s legacy, what he was saying was that the good people who don’t act are much worse than the wrongdoers who are purposefully not acting and don’t know the right way.”
In addition, Will Smith, Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith all said they will not be attending the Oscars this year. Will Smith is one of this year’s most noteworthy Oscar snubs, failing to land a best actor nomination for his role in Concussion.

In an interview with Robin Roberts Thursday morning on Good Morning America, Will Smith revealed that he will join his wife Jada’s boycott of the Oscars this year.
“The nominations reflect the Academy, the Academy reflects the industry, and the industry reflects America.”
After calling diversity “the American superpower,” Smith continued by saying “The nominations reflect the Academy, the Academy reflects the industry, and the industry reflects America. It reflects a series of challenges that we are having in our country at the moment. There’s a regressive slide towards separatism, towards racial and religious disharmony, and that’s not the Hollywood that I want to leave behind.”
When asked directly by Roberts if he would be attending, Smith said, “No. My wife’s not going…we’ve discussed it. We’re part of this community, but at this current time we’re uncomfortable to stand there and say that this is OK.”

But, the most interesting part from Will Smith’s interview about Jada’s call to boycott was the fact that he had no idea what was happening until after it already happened.
“I was [not aware that she was going to do that.] I was out of the country at the time. And I came home, what-what happened?…She’s deeply passionate. And when she’s moved, she has to go. I heard her words and I was knocked over. I was happy to be married to that woman.”
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actress Janet Hubert went after Jada Pinkett Smith again on Wednesday, regarding Jada Pinkett Smith’s boycott over the lack of diversity among the acting nominations.
After going on a four-minute rant on Facebook that went viral on Monday, Janet Hubert has now accused of Pinkett Smith of being a phony and a “pretend freedom fighter.”
“I was looking at this ridiculousness people called a historic moment and I was annoyed,” she told the Los Angeles Times. “I was annoyed because it dilutes the movement when you only stand up for yourself.
“I’m a real freedom fighter. I’m not a pretend freedom fighter. I stand up for other actresses, other people,” Hubert continued. “The Smiths just irked me because they are such pretenders, and everything is a photo op,” she said, also bashing her former “Fresh Prince” co-star Will Smith.
“It’s just self-contrived because her hubby didn’t get a nomination.”
On Monday, the actress who played Aunt Viv on the 1990s comedy, wrote a scathing message aimed at the Smith family, saying: “There’s a lot of sh-t going on in the world that you don’t seem to recognize. People are dying, being shot left and right, people are hungry, people are trying to pay bills — and you’re talking about actors and Oscars. It just ain’t that deep.”
It’s important to point out that Janet Hubert has had a long-running problem with Will Smith since they worked together on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and she accused him of having her kicked of the show in 1993. “[Smith] said ‘we’re just gonna replace her and act like nothing happened,’” she told Huffington Post in May 2013.

She discussed the problem with Will Smith in her latest Los Angeles Times interview, explaining the “struggle to take my reputation back from someone who purposefully destroyed it and would not stand up — and I’m listening to [Pinkett Smith] say, ‘Stand up and boycott the awards.’ Nobody cares.”
Hubert proclaimed: “We are not brain surgeons. We are not curing cancer. We are not finding the next cure for Alzheimer’s. We are simply and merely entertainment. We take on and wear the masks of characters. That’s what we’re paid to do.
“Someone like Will Smith has not come up through the ranks like most actors, so for him to be complaining the most is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.”
Hubert said that while we need to address the diversity issue, we need to tackle issues within the black community first.
“I’m called ‘dark-skinned Aunt Viv.” [Daphne Reid] is called ‘light-skinned Aunt Viv.’ The whole ridiculousness of black Hollywood — there is no black Hollywood. It’s every man for himself. We’ve got to address that first before we can start attacking someone else’s awards that were never designed for us.

“The Oscars were never designed for us. There are actors who have never gotten an Oscar and have done amazing work,” she continued. “If you are waiting for an award of a little … gold statue and that’s supposed to validate you, then you’re not in this business for the right reasons.”
She went on to criticize the Smith family for not doing enough for struggling black actors, like Tyler Perry and other African American stars have.

“Everyone is struggling to get to where Mr. Smith and where Mrs. Jada Pinkett Smith are. I have more respect for her because she’s come through the ranks. [But] y’all are at your mansion in a gilded cage standing up there with billions of dollars in the bank,” she said. “You could do more for the industry and for black Hollywood than anyone could.”

The Oscars are holding a private meeting to address the lack of diversity in this year’s Oscar nominations.
The Academy Awards is in the middle of a PR crisis the size of Hurricane Katrina before slamming into New Orleans, Louisiana. And the leaders behind the Oscars are holding a major board meeting in order to overhaul the membership requirements following this year’s criticism, according to Variety.
Earlier this week, Cheryl Boone Isaacs said in a statement that the Academy “is taking dramatic steps to alter the make up of our membership.” She also pointed out that there will be “a review of our membership recruitment in order to bring about much-needed diversity…”
The lack of diversity in nominations for the 88th Academy Awards has become to major talking point and people are suggesting what should happen next. Some people are calling for a boycott, while others suggest eliminating Black History Month and the BET Awards. But the general belief is that the industry itself needs to make the changes. However, it appears as though the Academy itself is just the scapegoat for a far bigger problem.

But, in order to fix this problem it puts the leaders behind the Oscars in a very sticky situation: They can’t publicly blame any particular producer or studio executive because many of Hollywood’s big decision makers are Academy Award judges and members. Instead, the Academy is finding different ways to avoid a public backlash. Hence, the secret Oscar meeting.
But, in order to keep the prestige of the Academy Awards, reports suggest that the Oscars are planning to make “big changes” in order to fix the issue, which will be discussed during the meeting. Variety’s sources suggest that these following rules are going to be the “big changes” the Oscars are planning on implementing.

Ultimately, the Academy believes if the number of nominations increased then, non-white actors and movies will be nominated more frequently. However, leaders plan on overhauling the requirements and voting system entirely.
Each of the Academy’s 17 branches has its own requirements for new members, but several Academy members said those rules are too strict and unrealistic in the current atmosphere, in which studios emphasize tentpoles or sex comedies, leading many thoughtful creatives to embrace TV work.
According to Variety, here’s a common issue with the voting system and judges, “in the editors branch, applicants must have “a minimum of four theatrical feature film credits of a caliber which, in the opinion of the executive committee, reflect the high standards of the Academy. These credits must be principal position screen credits as film editor with at least two being single card credits.” When impressive feature films are made on iPhones, it’s hard to determine what “caliber” is desired.”
It’s important to point out that this is not the first time the Academy Awards underwent a major facelift. In 1970, the Academy president Gregory Peck led a movement for the ““modernization of membership regulations,” in order to combat the idea that the Oscars were designed for old people and not young filmmakers.

Now, Jada Pinkett Smith is addressing the comments. Jada Pinkett Smith began by calling out the KKK’s recent recruitment efforts during the MLK holiday weekend. “Considering that Alabama had its highest recruitment for the KKK for Martin Luther King’s birthday, I hope that we as African-Americans can find a way to get along and step together,” Smith says.
According to theNew York Daily News, a Ku Klux Klan chapter distributed recruitment flyers to residents in Mobile, Alabama, over the MLK holiday weekend.
“This whole Oscar controversy isn’t really about the Oscars,” she adds. “Really, in my plea to ask all communities and people of color to take back our power is so that we can use it in all sectors of our community, and right now, specifically with African-American people, we have some very serious issues that I think we as a people have to move together on. I’m hoping we can find ways to step together in this instead of finding ways to fight each other. I got love for everybody.”
“This is a difficult but important conversation, and it’s time for big changes,” Isaacs, the Academy’s first black president, said in a statement. “The Academy is taking dramatic steps to alter the makeup of our membership. In the coming days and weeks we will conduct a review of our membership recruitment in order to bring about much-needed diversity in our 2016 class and beyond.”

I firmly believe that Scott Disick has the easiest job in the world. Outside of creating drama for the Kardashians, Scott Disick is making thousands upon thousands of dollars a day just using Instagram.
However, as far as we call tell from tabloids and KUWTK commercials, reality star Scott Disick is really having a tough time. He recently separated from the mother of his three children, Kourtney Kardashian, and he makes a living hosting parties in Las Vegas and endorsing products on his Instagram.
The product endorsements are extremely talented in the authenticity and context. It’s as though Scott Disick is moving his way from reality TV to becoming a promotional model on Instagram. But, it’s also interesting to point out that he deletes these posts for teeth whiteners, detox tea, and 24K gold face masks after they’ve been up for a time.
Recently, Jezebel published a report on this new advertising platform, revealing how much reality stars make a selling diet supplements, corsets and bleaching kits. In fact, Disick makes $15,000 to $20,000 for every post—the most of any reality TV star who you barely know the name of, and far less than a Jenner or Kardashian.
While earning $20,000 to post a picture of a bag of coffee beans is pretty amazing.

The judges behind the Academy Awards wants you to know that they are not racist.
The Oscars are in the middle of a PR crisis with everyone commenting on the lack of non-white Oscar nominees for a second year in a row. But, the Academy Award members want you to know that they are not racist in fact, they find it extremely offensive if you suggest that they are.
“to imply that this is because all of us are racists is extremely offensive.”
According to a report on The Hollywood Reporter, Penelope Ann Miller, helped create Carlito’s Way and The Artists, she is also a member of the actors branch and could have nominated the leading actors behind Creed, Concussion, The Hateful Eight or Beasts of No Nation but, she says The Academy is not racist.
“I don’t want to be lumped into a category of being a racist because I’m certainly not and because I support and benefit from the talent of black people in this business. It was just an incredibly competitive year.”

“If the Academy – I think all this would go away if they revealed the votes,” Perry said. “If you look at a movie like ‘Straight Outta Compton’ right and just say it got 1,000 votes and ‘The Revenant’ got 1, 001 votes, is that racism or is it just this is the way the votes went?”
Actors George Clooney and David Oyelowo also criticized the Oscars.
“I don’t think it’s a problem of who you’re picking as much as it is: How many options are available to minorities in film, particularly in quality films?” Clooney said in a statement to Variety.”We need to get better at this.”
However, it is important to point out that George Clooney has not featured a person of color in the last four movies he directed.
“For 20 opportunities to celebrate actors of color, actresses of color, to be missed last year is one thing; for that to happen again this year is unforgivable,” Oyelowo said at a gala honoring Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs Monday.
“When you’re dealing with a movie that costs 100 million dollars or more, you don’t want to take risks,” said Tim Gray, awards editor at Variety. “It’s more based on what worked last year and what worked five years ago, ‘let’s do it again this year.’ And so you’re seeing that lack of imagination, which also means lack of diversity.”
Even Lupita Nyong’o, who won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2013 for her role in 12 Years a Slave also expressed her disappointment in the film industry.

Former Disney star Jake T. Austin is giving hope to loyal fans everywhere. After 22-year-old Danielle Ceasar, who is frome New York, allegedly tweeted the Wizards of Waverly Place actor for five years as a dedicated fan, the two are now dating.
Jake, 21, recently posted the following picture on his Instagram, writing, “I’m crazy for her.”

Danielle reportedly posted the picture on her own Instagram page saying: “Every love story is beautiful, but ours is my favorite,” according to The Sun.
According to reports, Danielle tweeted the actor several times a day for years starting in 2009. Screen shots of her now private Twitter account show messages saying, “I wanna meet @JakeTAustin so badly,” and “opppps @jaketaustin is it bad that I wanna kiss you right now?! uhhhh you’re so freaking hot.”
And apparently she had a ton of posters of him.
“Redid my walls now I have @jaketaustin on them :)” a January 2010 tweet allegedly reads.
… And dreamed the two would one day get married.
“Me & @jaketaustin are getting married,” a March 2010 tweet allegedly reads. “Shhh =x he just doesn’t know it yet. 😉 yes I know I’m a freak. :D.”
But her persistency eventually paid off and she reportedly got to meet the actor at what appears to be a meet-and-greet in NYC in December 2011, writing, “Your smile is so cute @JakeTAustin.”
Then Jake started following her back on social media after a sweet tweet message. The rest is history.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Michael Bay is ramping up production in the windy city.
Talking with WGN Radio’s Dean Richards, Bay said he plans to be back in Chicago sometime later this year. The film is scheduled for a 2017 release, with plans already in the works for two more “Transformers” movies after that. Billion-dollar revenues will do that.
“You going to blow up Michigan Avenue again?” Richards asks Bay in his interview. “No, we’re gonna find a new street,” Bay said. “But I love Chicago.” And then, calling out Chicago’s problems including gun violence, Michael Bay added: “We’ll come in with some Transformers to even it out.”
This should not come as a surprise as Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Transformers: Age of Extinction both filmed in Chicago.
In the fourth Age of Extinction, Mark Wahlberg played Cade Yeager, a Texas inventor and mechanic who was also very protective of his daughter, Nicola Peltz’s Tessa Yeager. The movie would later go on to gross over $1.1 billion at the global box office, bringing the total Transformers franchise to a total gross of over $3.7 billion and that doesn’t even include merchandise.
Transformers 5 will be written by Iron Man writers Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Ken Nolan from Black hawk Dawn.
