How to Write a Casting Call (Plus Examples)

0

If you’re in the film industry, you know that a casting call is an essential part of the filmmaking process. But what goes into writing a good casting call? In this blog post, we’ll give some tips and examples of writing an excellent casting call to help you get the talent you need for your project. So let’s get started!

What is a casting call, and why do you need one?

A casting call is a notice sent out to actors, agents, and another talent to audition for or apply for a specific role in a project. It’s best practice to have an organized casting call that provides clear instructions on using it and who is eligible. A well-written and professional casting call will help you source the best talent possible based on the skills they bring to the project. Good writing practices should be considered when creating a casting call; it’s essential to provide just enough information so potential applicants can decide if their skills fit the role you are looking for. It would be best if you offered any flexibility options for the application process, such as phone interviews or virtual auditions. These added benefits can further ensure you attract qualified professionals who believe in your project.

How to write a casting call – what information to include

Writing a casting call for an upcoming project can be daunting. Fortunately, some essential information to include make the process far more accessible. Of primary importance is the production’s needs: what type of talent are you looking for, how old should they be, and how long is their role? Secondly, you should include your production timeline, so prospective actors or models know when they must be available. Finally, detail your compensation and any special requests—such as a specific look or skills required—so that candidates understand what is expected upfront. Covering these basics increases your chances of having the right person fill your roles.

Examples of great casting calls

Crafting the perfect casting call can be a daunting task, but some examples of great casting calls reveal there are many strategies to consider. For example, having a clear and detailed vision for the production can help create an attractive package for talented actors that may not have all the particulars already mapped out. Furthermore, investing time in researching the desired cast before composing your casting call could pay dividends when meeting deadlines or representing an inclusive roster. Finally, finding the best words to communicate what you’re looking for while keeping a professional tone can help entice prospective talent and boost overall confidence internally and externally. These are just a few tactics for writing compelling and engaging casting calls that get you on the right foot with any project.

Tips for making your casting call stand out

Writing a compelling casting call is essential for any production, which should be reflected in the language and specifics of the post. When crafting a casting call, there are several tips to bear in mind to make it stand out from the competition. Make sure to utilize creative approaches, such as descriptions that give the reader an instant visual understanding of what you’re looking for or a counterintuitive approach to your posting description. Additionally, elucidating deadlines and payment expectations can help ensure that applicants know exactly how long they have to respond and if any pay is involved. These small but essential steps can prove invaluable when creating an engaging casting call, helping you quickly and efficiently attract just the right people for your project quickly and efficiently.

How to use social media to find the right actors for your project

Writing a casting call can be essential to any creative project, but finding the right actors can seem daunting. The good news is social media networks provide an excellent resource for sourcing potential talent. Creating an effective post outlining your needs and values as a project team is the first step. Ensure to include information like character breakdowns, production dates, location, rates of payment, etc. Networking with already-established contacts inside the industry is another valuable avenue to explore – word-of-mouth recommendations from peers can go a long way. Lastly, use hashtags related to your unique project so that your post reaches the widest possible audience! By utilizing these tips for writing and publicizing a casting call through social media networks, you’ll be well on your way to connecting with the perfect talent for your production.

In conclusion, a casting call is an integral part of any media production and must be crafted precisely. Knowing the elements of a successful casting call and including just the right amount and type of information will help you find the best actors for your project. Whether through a traditional online posting or leveraging social media, use your creativity and sound judgment to create a casting call that will get attention and attract the most talented actors. Writing a professional and engaging casting call can be intimidating. Still, by following our tips in this blog post, you’ll be well on your way to successfully producing your project with quality talent!

Instagram Gifs: Step-By-Step Gude to Adding Gifs to Instagram comments

0

Unleash the power of GIFs on Instagram! Here’s a step-by-step guide to adding these dynamic expressions in comments.

GIFs have become integral to today’s conversations, as nothing expresses our feelings better than a single GIF. Every emotion has its unique GIF, and Instagram recently made it easier to share these emotions by introducing the ability to post them in replies on posts and stories. So now you can quickly express yourself with just one dynamic image!

As per the latest report, Instagram is set to use GIPHY’s online GIF database for its new sticker feature. Only now, users have been able to upload GIFs onto stories but have yet to reply. However, this update will change that and make it easier for people to share content via messaging.

According to reports, the feature will be released in stages over time and should have a full rollout within several weeks. If you’re one of those who can now post GIFs for stories or posts, follow these steps!

To give users further control and flexibility, the social media application has implemented several additional features, including GIFs in replies, the ‘Not Interested’ button, and ‘Quiet Mode.’

At the beginning of this year, Instagram released Quiet Mode and Not Interested Modes to help users stay focused and manage their interactions with people they follow or are followed by. When the feature is enabled, users cannot obtain notifications. Users’ profiles will transform into “In Quiet Mode” and automatically respond to anyone who sends them a Direct Message (DM). Initially, this service was available within the United States, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand; however, the company plans to release it in other nations soon.

Instagram has made managing recommendations easier with its ‘Not Interested’ feature. In addition to the ability to hide comments and DMs, users can now select ‘Not Interested’ on posts they don’t find relevant or interesting. By doing so, Instagram will ensure similar posts are no longer served in the future. This innovative tool allows users to take back control of their feed and curate it according to their interests!

Instagram to Launch Verified Subscription Service

0

To ensure the best user experience, Meta to Test has launched a verified subscription service for both Facebook and Instagram users.

This groundbreaking initiative will enable customers to use their social media accounts with unparalleled ease, reliability, and convenience. Whether staying current on the latest trends or managing your followers more efficiently – our new subscription service is designed specifically with you in mind!

Meta Platforms Inc. is unveiling a revolutionary “Meta Verified” subscription service on Facebook and Instagram, which allows users to authenticate their accounts using official government documentation.

On Sunday, the company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, revealed via social media that Facebook would kick off its testing phase for this service in Australia and New Zealand. In addition to authentication, this system will provide proactive account monitoring for potential imitators, direct access to customer service assistance, and heightened visibility into user accounts.

Enjoy the monthly subscription plan for only $11.99 when you purchase it online, or get it on iOS and Android for just $14.99! Log in to Instagram or Facebook to take advantage of this fantastic offer today. To be considered for eligibility, users must satisfy minimum activity standards and submit an official government-issued ID, as outlined in a recent press release.

Meta postulated that already validated accounts would remain unchanged while they try out the new scheme.

After receiving countless requests from content creators for complete access to verification and account assistance, the platform developed its “Meta Verified” service. We aim to help ambitious creators expand their reach and rapidly build a supportive community.

The company has expressed its intention to roll out the service worldwide shortly.

Meta isn’t the initial social media platform to offer a paid verified subscription plan – but it may be one of the most noteworthy. In October 2022, Elon Musk gave Twitter a new lease on life by introducing the revolutionary Blue plan. Our custom-crafted subscription service, with exclusive bonuses just for signing up at only $8 per month through the web and an extra few dollars more if you opted in via iOS devices, was sure to be worth every penny – and it’s no wonder why it remains one of Silicon Valley’s most beloved subscriptions today! Rather than displaying the title “official,” he placed a gold or gray checkmark next to each respective account.

‘I Am Legend 2’ Starring Michael B. Jordan, Will Smith is Now in Pre-Production

0

Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan are set to star in a sequel of ‘I Am Legend’ that doesn’t follow the original’s storyline.

Last year, the news of a sequel to I Am Legend rocked Hollywood; set to be co-produced by and starring two powerful actors, Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan, anticipation for this post-apocalyptic action thriller film has been growing ever since its announcement. We can finally gain insight into what fans expect from the upcoming movie that builds on the 2007 original!

Akiva Goldsman recently revealed to Deadline that the sequel of I Am Legend will provide a unique twist, deviating from its predecessor by featuring Will Smith’s character surviving at the end.

The new plotline was extrapolated from the bonus ending in I Am Legend’s two-disc special edition DVD. After reading the 1954 novel by Richard Matheson, Robert Neville comes to terms with what he has done – becoming a monster in the eyes of those infected and regretting his past experiments on Darkseekers. Desperate for answers, Neville embarks on a journey to Vermont in search of the rumored survivor’s colony.

“This will start a few decades later than the first,” Goldsman exclaimed. “That will be especially visual in New York…I don’t know if they’ll climb to the Empire State Building, but the possibilities are endless.” Adding, “We trace back to the original Matheson book and the alternate ending as opposed to the released ending in the original film. What Matheson was talking about was that man’s time on the planet as the dominant species had come to an end. That’s an exciting thing we’re going to get to explore. There will be a little more fidelity to the original text.”

Akiva Goldsman seized the chance to affirm that Keanu Reeves will reprise his role in a sequel to Constantine.

About I Am Legend:

Will Smith’s 2007 post-apocalyptic horror-thriller I Am Legend was an immense success upon its initial release, earning a 95% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and becoming the second highest grossing film of the year at the domestic box office.

I Am Legend follows Smith’s character Robert Neville as he attempts to find a cure for a deadly virus that has wiped out most of humanity. The film was praised for its compelling storyline, captivating visuals, and strong performances from Smith and supporting cast members Alice Braga and Charlie Tahan.

Upon its release, I Am Legend set several records at the box office. It opened with $77 million in its first weekend, setting the record for biggest December opening ever. Within three weeks, it had already surpassed $200 million domestically and by the end of its theatrical run it earned more than $585 million worldwide – making it one of the highest grossing films ever released at that time.

The success of I Am Legend is largely attributed to Smith’s star power and the film’s innovative marketing campaign, including unique promotional tie-ins such as an alternate ending created specifically for DVD releases and viral videos promoting the film and its soundtrack.

The legacy of I Am Legend continues to this day; this critically acclaimed sci-fi thriller remains one of Will Smith’s most successful films, becoming a fan favorite since its original release over a decade ago.

How to Get Cast in Cartoon Saloon’s ‘Julián’

0

Cartoon Saloon’s Julián’ is now casting and hiring actors for the first feature film.

Cartoon Saloon’s ‘Julián’ producers are now casting two speaking roles. Check out the casting call breakdowns.

[Julián] LEAD

    • Seeking talent of Afro-Caribbean descent.
    • Seeking talent 7-12 (talent to sound 7).
    • Open to male/female/non-binary talent.
    • Knowledge of the Spanish language is a plus, but not a strict requirement. Julián is not himself fluent in Spanish and speaks it deliberately by repeating Abuela’s words.

A creative, instinctive kid of seven years; existing at many an intersection, each one a portal of possibility. In this moment, he’s teetering on edge, ready to burst it all open. He is a happy, secure, and confident young boy. Also, he might be a mermaid.

[Abuela] LEAD

    • TALENT MUST BE ABLE TO SPEAK SPANISH
    • Abuela is in her 60s – however, we are open with the age as long as the talent have the the voice profile we are seeking.
    • Seeking talent from a Hispanophone Caribbean background, ideally specifically from the Dominican Republic.
    • Abuela is Afro-Caribbean, born and raised in the Dominican Republic.
    • She speaks Spanish frequently and confidently. English is her second language, which she learned in Brooklyn as a young adult. A Brooklyn accent in English is less important, as Abuela learned English in a cultural melting pot that includes many non-native English speakers.

She is stoic, firm, but with a natural tenderness in her voice. Her voice should have a gravitas that comes with age and experience, but no frailty suggests an elderly woman.

The grandmother of Julián. She is the best kind of elder, wise and caring, but still messy and complicated in her own right. Brilliant, but bound by past mistakes, she has closed herself to further pain, hardening her heart. Unbeknownst to her, Julián will be the key to cracking it open.

About Cartoon Saloon’s ‘Julián’:

Louise Bagnall, the founder of Cartoon Saloon, is revealing the initial details regarding her first feature film ‘Julián.’

Cartoon Saloon is hard at work bringing Louise Bagnall’s (Late Afternoon) Oscar-nominated directorial debut, Julián, to life. This picture book adaptation of Jessica Love’s beloved novel Julián is a Mermaid will surely capture the hearts and minds of viewers everywhere!

Join Project Casting to access jobs you can apply to right now.

“I’ve never adapted anything before,” the director told Cartoon Brew about her next project. But when Julián is a Mermaid was brought to the studio by David Yate’s Wychwood Media, Bagnall looked through the material and knew “it was a project that I can feel passionate about, but also something that speaks to me artistically, visually, thematically. And more importantly, what did I want to spend years of my life working on?”

In the production process, we connected with author and illustrator Jessica Love to brainstorm potential designs for the book. According to Bagnall, “It’s a great jumping-off point, the book, in terms of the visuals. There’s so much vibrancy… and it’s been really exciting as well to explore the world. We’re able to expand it.”

To expand Love’s book into a feature animation project, the team determined that it was necessary to extend its narrative timeline since the story is quite brief.

“[The book is] one lovely afternoon. We dug a little bit deeper, and we’ve expanded out our scope and timeframe as well,” explained Bagnall. According to the film’s creators, we can expect an entire summer of adventures with Julián and his Abuela as they explore all that life has to offer.

The project’s official synopsis reads:

The wide-eyed Julián spends a summer of discovery in New York City with his Abuela. Nearly strangers, they brace themselves for tense conversations and new adventures. The colorful chaos of Abuela’s world, and the stories she tells him, awakens something within Julián… questions about who he is and who he could be. Julián’s journey will reach across the diaspora, from Brooklyn block to the ocean’s depths, in an intergenerational ebb and flow. Through Abuela’s world, Julián explores his identity, gender expression, and the hidden heritage of his family.

As is typical of the Cartoon Saloon style, Bagnall and her team decided to incorporate more fantasy elements. “I can tell you that there’s definitely magic in the story; he will meet a mermaid goddess,” she said. The film will also adhere to another of the studio’s tenets, traditional animation. Bagnall predicted, “I do think we’re still gonna embrace a lot of the stuff that we all love in the Saloon, which is like a hand-drawn feeling.”

With an Oscar-nominated short film, Late Afternoon, under her belt, and recently assistant directed Netflix’s My Father’s Dragon for Nora Twomey. Bagnall is no amateur when it comes to directing, and she has been ardently working on the development of Julián in collaboration with screenwriter Juliany Taveras for quite some time now – although a feature-length movie hasn’t emerged yet.

Cartoon Saloon has an acclaimed reputation for its visually captivating animation. However, Bagnall insists that getting the story right is paramount. “We’ve got the artists; we’ve got the interest in making the visuals look good. I wasn’t exactly worried about that, I knew we’d get there with the visual development, whereas I wanted to make sure that we were gonna tell the story that we really wanted to tell.”

Cartoon Saloon has joined forces with Folivari, Sun Creature, Aircraft Pictures, and Wychwood Media to create Julián. Although production is yet to begin, Bagnall can speak out confidently about the project, knowing they’re in safe hands. “I think we’re essentially at the end of our development period now. I’ve been working on it for a little while… we’re not out of development yet, but we’re very much gearing up towards the next step, which is pre-production.”

Thematically, in Julián and the Mermaid, the protagonist explores an awakening of gender expression. Bagnall feels the brilliance of the book is that “it’s not prescriptive. It doesn’t like, go ahead and label things… It’s actually opening up a question and letting the audience project their own feelings or their own experiences there.”

She was profoundly touched by the narrative’s inquisitive and exploratory approach, providing her with a unique opportunity to gain new perspectives. “That’s something that feels genuine. For a lot of kids, there is an age when you explore things. There’s an age where gender expression can be a big part of that for certain.”

By including a character like Julián in this film, there is an unparalleled opportunity to create meaningful impact and “to both be able to show that there is an expression and there’s an exploration, and there’s a question that he’s beginning to ask, and there’s a desire to find out more about his own at wants and his own desire to express himself,” Bagnall said.

She went on, “We’re talking about something that actually affects a lot of people. They feel like they have something to say on it. So, between the writer, between myself, between the different members of the team that we’re gonna have on board, I think we’ll have a good way of collaborating together and talking about these things as we’re making the film so that we’re not just coming at it from a one-note perspective.”

According to Bagnall, Julián is crafted for a pre-teen demographic that can easily relate and connect to the main character, but that “Julián’s journey is gonna be something that a lot of old adults, young adults, will relate to as well. Because I think these things have come up and do come up with questions about how do you express your identity and even cultural identity. How can things grow?”

In March, Bagnall and Cartoon Saloon will introduce their project Julián to the French event Cartoon Movie.

Synopsis: The wide-eyed JULIÁN spends a summer of discovery in NYC with his ABUELA. Nearly strangers, they brace themselves for tense conversations and new adventures. The colourful chaos of Abuela’s world, and the stories she tells him, awakens something within Julián… questions about who he is and who he could be. Julián’s curiosity is piqued when he discovers magic that seems to flow from his very fingertips! He knows it must be connected to something deeper… and the Brooklyn block outside Abuela’s door may just provide a clue. A trio of girls, Julián’s new best friends, dazzle him with talk of a beautiful mermaid goddess, one with the power of transformation – The wondrous YEMAYÁ! Her magic bears a striking resemblance to Julián’s recent discovery… The girls plan to meet her at the spectacular Mermaid Parade and Julián is eager to join them, he wants nothing more than to be a mermaid! However, Abuela sees things a little differently. She knows all too well the dangers of the ocean, of Yemayá, and the power she wields. She is keen to make up for lost time with Julián, but she’s desperate to protect him too. Abuela isn’t ready to let him go, so instead she offers Julian a choice: She will bring him to the parade – only if he gives up on Yemayá… Julián agrees, delighted to have Abuela on his side. They become close, spending time together making a costume and enjoying each other’s company. But still, Julián finds himself drawn to the sea, to Yemayá and the freedom they promise. Julián, believing he can change Abuela’s mind, reveals his true intentions, magic and all. But Abuela’s pain runs deeper than Julián could possibly know. She won’t let him go. Despite her betrayal, Julián refuses to give up. Driven by fierce emotion and magical power, he summons a huge storm that carries him off to the ocean. Once there, Julián’s dream can finally come true, but only if he is willing to leave everything behind. It’s now or never for Abuela. If she doesn’t want to lose him, she must prove that she is ready to accept all those parts of Julián, and herself, that she has closed off for so long. Julián feels himself being torn in two – bound to Abuela and Yemayá equally. However, his summer of discovery has shown him that the answer lies somewhere between the two. Julián is of land and sea, a child of Abuela and Yemayá, a boy and mermaid. Julián is magic! The storm clouds disappear and Julián and Abuela fully embrace. By the time they return to their block they are forever changed but forever connected. They have both been truly transformed!
