Selfies Linked to Mental Illness and Addiction

“Two out of three of all the patients who come to see me with Body Dysmorphic Disorder since the rise of camera phones have a compulsion to repeatedly take and post selfies on social media sites.”

“Cognitive behavioral therapy is used to help a patient to recognize the reasons for his or her compulsive behaviour and then to learn how to moderate it,” he told the Sunday Mirror.

A teenager from the UK tried to commit suicide after he was unable to take the perfect selfie. Danny Bowman became so obsessed with capturing the perfect photo that he spent 10 hours a day taking up to 200 selfies. The 19-year-old lost nearly 30 pounds, dropped out of school and did not leave the house for six months in his quest to get the right photo. He would take 10 pictures right after waking up. He became so frustrated to take the perfect image, he tried to commit suicide by overdosing. Fortunately, his mother saved his life.

It is believed the teenager became the first selfie addict and has had therapy to treat his addiction, as well as OCD and Body Dysmorphic Disorder.

“Selfies frequently trigger perceptions of self-indulgence or attention-seeking social dependence that raises the damned-if-you-do and damned-if-you-don’t spectre of either narcissism or very low self-esteem,” said Pamela Rutledge in Psychology Today.

The addiction to selfies has also concerned physicians in Thailand. “To pay close attention to published photos, controlling who sees or who likes or comments them, hoping to reach the greatest number of likes is a symptom that ‘selfies’ are causing problems,” said Panpimol Wipulakorn, of the Thai Mental Health Department.

The doctor believed that behaviors could generate brain problems in the future, especially those related to lack of confidence.

Tyler Perry Trademarks “What Would Jesus Do”

Tyler Perry has officially trademarked “What Would Jesus Do?”

Do you remember the phrase W.W.J.D bracelets? In the 1990s the bracelets became a motto for many Christians who used the phrase a reminder of their belief to act in a manner a way that Jesus would want them too.

Now, the once former homeless play writer turned entertainment mogul, Tyler Perry now has trademarked the phrase “What Would Jesus Do?”

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Tyler Perry has been in dispute for years with someone else who wanted to trademark the name, and recently won.

While it is not clear how Tyler Perry will stop millions of youth church group goers from using the now famous bracelets, or if he will require royalty checks. He included a disclaimer that he wasn’t attempting ownership on the exclusive right to use “Jesus” apart from “What Would Jesus Do,” the Hollywood Reporter said, citing the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Georgia Film Industry in Trouble? Reps Upset about Lack of Talent

There is no doubt in denying how quickly the Georgia Film Industry grew over the last couple of years.

With the release of several Hunger Games movies, the Divergent Series, and several major television shows, Georgia has quickly shown the world that they are a force to be reckoned with in the TV and Film industry.

Production companies that spend at least $500,000 in qualified expenses are eligible for the 20 percent tax credit and can receive an additional 10 percent if the project includes a Georgia logo. According to reports Georgia is on the way to giving $163 million in tax incentives.

But, Georgia may have hit the biggest wall as they continue to take over the film industry, lack of qualified crews.

According to WSBTV, during a meeting between representatives for the film and television industry told state officials that they regularly struggle to find crews in Georgia and have to hire staff from other states.

Projects have struggled to find construction crews, grip and electric teams and special effects, especially for television teams facing a deadline of only a few weeks, said Craig McNeil, production executive at NBC’s cable arm Universal Cable Productions. McNeil is midway through shooting the first season of “Satisfaction” in Georgia and said the number of projects shooting simultaneously in the state can make it difficult to fully staff.

The problem representatives said, is finding people with both the training and on-the-job experience to help projects get done time and on budget.

David Grant, vice president of physical production for Marvel Studios, is producing the studio’s first project in Georgia, “Ant Man,” and called the state’s incentive program one of, if not the best, in the U.S. But Marvel has struggled to find the experienced and trained special effects technicians, specialty costumers and stunt team members especially important to an action hero production, Grant said.

When they can’t hire locally, crew members have to be flown in from California, he said.

“We’ve found because Georgia is so busy, some of the advantages of being here via the incentive are wiped away because of the amount of people we have to bring in,” he said.

But, expect things to change quickly. Lee Thomas, director of the Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office, said that he will bring the workforce issues to the attention of public universities and technical colleges.

‘The Longest Ride’ Casting Call for a featured role in the upcoming Nicholas Sparks’ movie

Nicholas Sparks, most known for writingThe Notebook is turning his latest book into a movie.

Based on the Nicholas Sparks novel, “The Longest Ride” centers on two sets of lovers in two intertwining stories. The first story is told through flashbacks of a 90-year-old veteran’s life and the love he has for his departed wife. The second story follows a student who falls in love with a similarly-wounded bull rider.

Marty Siu Casting is currently seeking an Asian female actress for a featured role in ‘The Longest Ride‘. Casting directors are looking for a home care aid to “Ira” (played by Alan Alda).

‘Don’t Mess with Texas’ starring Sofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon Extras Casting Call in Lousiana

‘Don’t Mess with Texas‘ starring Sofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon posted a casting call for extras in Louisiana.

The action comedy started filming last May and production is expected to continue to film in New Orleans until July.

According to NOLA, “the film, which was put on the production fast track to take advantage of Sofia Vergara’s “Modern Family” summer hiatus, is described as a buddy comedy about a police officer (Witherspoon) who goes on the run in Texas with the wife of drug boss (Vergara). In pursuit: a legion of lawmen — and lawless men.”

RPM Casting is looking for extras to work on a scene filming in Kenner, Louisiana as Country Club Staff. Talents must be available today, tomorrow, and Wednesday.

USA Network’s ‘Satisfaction’ casting call for extras and musicians in Atlanta, Georgia.

The new drama on the USA network is described as a “provocative drama that explores modern marriage at its midpoint.” The new television series features Matt Passmore (“The Glades”) as Neil Truman and Stephanie Szostack, (“The Devil Wears Prada”) as Grace.

The USA network describes the series by answering the question, “What do you do when having it all is not enough?” by delving into their shocking and unconventional choices.

Marinella Hume Casting is looking for extras to play housekeepers/gardeners and trained musicians. Producers posted a casting call for talent to work on Wednesday, July 9th and Thursday, July 10th.

Filming will take place in Atlanta and these are paid extra roles.

Worst 4th of July Box Office Weekend in 30 Years

No one went to the movies this fourth of July weekend.

You most likely went to the movies this Fourth of July. According to box office reports, this past weekend was one of the worst in decades. Sales were down about 43 percent from 2013 and Transformers won the weekend again.

Box office nerds are speculating why this year’s sales were so bad. Some guesses are because of the World Cup, bad weather. But, the most obvious reason could be that there wasn’t anything good playing. According to BuzzFeed, this weekend’s box office “was the lowest grossing 4th of July weekend since the 1980s, when adjusting for inflation:”

Because July 4 falls on different days of the week each year, it’s difficult to make direct box office comparisons for Independence Day weekend: July 4 fell on a Friday this year versus a Thursday last year, for example, meaning many adults had just one day off in 2014 versus two in 2013. Still, Transformers: Age of Extinction dropping 63.6% from its debut weekend, with just $36.4 million over the holiday weekend, does not bode well for the long-term health of the franchise. In fact, it is currently tracking well behind the domestic grosses of the first three Transformers films.

Variety also reports that this year’s Fourth of July falling on a Friday was encouraging for a large movie audience. But, the Hurrican hitting on the east coast could have been problematic for ticket sales.

The movies released this week included Melissa McCarthy’s ‘Tammy‘ which made 21.2 million olver the weekend. ‘Tammy’ is currently sitting as the worst reviewed movie of 2014.

“The good news is that Tammy is not a crappy remake of the 1957 Tammy movie with Debbie Reynolds that spawned three sequels and a TV comedy series. The bad news is that this one is much worse… It’s about as funny as a liver transplant.” — New York Observer’s Rex Reed.

‘Midnight Rider’ Filmmakers Facing 10 Years in Prison

‘Midnight Rider’ Filmmakers have been charged with involuntary manslaughter after the death of Sarah Jones.

Prosecutors in Georgia’s Wayne county charged filmmakers Randall Miller, Jody Savin and Jay Sedrish with involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespass in the February death of 27-year-old camera assistant Sarah Elizabeth Jones.

Sarah Jones was killed on a train trestle while filming for the upcoming biopic, Midnight Rider.

The accident occurred on February 20th, when Sarah Jones was hit by a train.

The film’s crew were filming outside of Savannah, Georgia. Under Georgia law, a manslaughter conviction carries a sentence of 10 years in prison. While criminal trespass is a misdemeanor and carries a potential sentence of one year.

Randall Miller directed ‘Midnight Rider‘ while his wife, Jody Savin was the producer. Jay Sedrish served as the movies unit production manager and executive producer. Police have been investigating the accident since it first occurred.

There have been several lawsuits filed against Miller, Savin, Sedrish. The parents of Sarah Jones, Richard and Elizabeth Jones filed a wrongful death suit on May 21 claiming that the filmmakers “operated without minimum safety precautions and contrary to standard industry practices for productions of this scale and for productions involving dangerous filming conditions.”

Sarah Jones has become a symbol for workplace safety all across the world.

Several black ribbons were seen during this year’s Oscars ceremony including by Best Sound Editing winner Glenn Freemantle of Gravity in remembrance to Sarah Jones. She was mentioned during the Oscarcast following the In Memoriam segments in a graphic pointing viewers to the Academy’s website.

On Facebook, where the Slates for Sarah page collected photo tributes in memory of Jones with slogans like “We Are All Sarah Jones” and “Remember Sarah.” Several organizations held memorial events including the Society of Camera Operators and the International Cinematographers Guild, which was attended by Jones’ parents Richard and Elizabeth.
