GWCI is seeking NON-UNION Men to portray Hotel Staff (doormen, bell hops, porters, etc). for Season 1 of the CW Series “Katy Keene!” Will be shooting in NYC area, interior work, and is winter season.

About Katy Keene:

According to Deadline, Katy Kene is written by Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi and directed by Maggie Kiley. “Katy Keene centers around the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — including fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene and singer-songwriter Josie McCoy. — as they chase their twentysomething dreams in New York City. The musical dramedy chronicles the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio.”

According to reports, the sequel to “Halloween”, “Halloween Kills”, is now filming under the production title “Mob Rules”. “Halloween Kills” is set to be the sequel to the 2018 movie which saw the return of Jamie Lee Curtis. David Gordon Green is returning to helm Halloween Kills as well as the third installment, Halloween Ends. Universal and Blumhouse’s Halloween reboot movie opened to $76.2 million. It is the highest opening in the franchise’s history. The film ended up earning over $255 million globally and $159 million in the U.S. on a budget in the $10 million range.

The film titled JUDAS & THE BLACK MESSIAH (formerly JESUS WAS MY HOMEBOY) is preparing to shoot in Cleveland this fall.

Daniel Kaluuya and his Get Out co-star Lakeith Stanfield to star in Jesus Was My Homeboy, a production that tells the true story of Fred Hampton, a Black Panther revolutionary, and activist who was assassinated in 1969.

Daniel Kaluuya will play Fred Hampton, an Illinois-born honors student who was active in the NAACP, brokered a non-aggression pact between two of Chicago’s gangs, coined the phrase “rainbow coalition,” and rose to prominence in the Black Panther Party on both the state and national level. Hampton was assassinated by the FBI and the Chicago Police Department at age 21 during a raid on his apartment.

Lakeith Stanfield will play William O’Neal, a car thief who had his charges dropped by becoming an FBI informant who worked his way into the Black Panthers, eventually becoming Hampton’s bodyguard and turning over a detailed layout of Hampton’s apartment to the authorities, which ultimately contributed to Hampton’s assassination. This film is said to “look at the rise and death of Hampton through O’Neal’s perspective.”

Tyler Perry says Hollywood ‘ignored’ him; now the filmmaker is expanding his studio in Atlanta

Tyler Perry was once homeless before he finally made it into the film industry. Since his meteoric rise to stardom, the actor has been a significant influencer in Hollywood by doing things his way and rejecting the traditional Hollywood model.

Perry says the industry has overlooked his impact in the film industry. “I clearly believe that I’m ignored in Hollywood, for sure, and that’s fine. I get it,” Perry told Gayle King in an interview for “CBS This Morning” ahead of the opening of his new film studio Tyler Perry Studios, a movie studio he owns.

“My audience and the stories that I tell are African-American stories specific to a certain audience, specific to a certain group of people that I know, that I grew up, and we speak a language,” he added. “Hollywood doesn’t necessarily speak the language. A lot of critics don’t speak that language. So, to them, it’s like, ‘What is this?’”

Tyler Perry said he knew the impact of his work and understand why the industry is hesitant about his projects. That said, he says he has been on a mission to continue to speak to the people that have embraced his movies and TV shows.

“I know what I do is important. I know what I do touches millions of people around the world,” he added. “I know how important every word, every joke, every laugh [is]. I know what that does for the people where I come from and the people that I’m writing for. So, yeah, I get that.”

Last week, Tyler Perry welcomed a ton of A-list Hollywood celebrities, influencers, and producers to his new TV and film studio in Atlanta. In attendance, Oprah Winfrey, Ava DuVernay, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Will Smith, Halle Berry, Spike Lee, Whoopi Goldberg, and Viola Davis were all in attendance including many others.

Last month, Tyler Perry discussed Georgia’s controversial “heartbeat,” which many in Hollywood have called to boycott filming in the state. Tyler Perry says, “Atlanta has been the dream. It has been the promised land,” Perry told The Associated Press last month. “So, when I got here, this whole state and city have been amazing to me, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything. Also, I put $250 million in the ground here and in the studio. So, when you have a quarter of a billion dollars sat down in the ground, you can’t just up and leave.”

Instagram is Removing ‘Following’ Feature This Week

Instagram will remove the ‘Following’ feature this week.

Instagram is officially removing their “Following” tab this week, and users will no longer have a place to see what their friends, family, and personal accounts are liking and commenting.

The feature currently resides inside Instagram’s heart icon next to the “You” section. Once the features are updated, only your feed will be displayed.

The social networking app launched the feature in 2011. Instagram is finding that many people are turning to a more recent “Explore” page to find new content to watch, like, and follow. The Following tab is best known as a feature to keep up on different users ‘ like and monitor activity, which can be controversial if improperly used.

Instagram’s head of product Visha Shah confirmed in an initial report to BuzzFeed News that the main reason for getting rid of this feature is because people were not aware it even existed.

“People didn’t always know that their activity is surfacing. So you have a case where it’s not serving the use case you built if for, but it’s also causing people to be surprised when their activity is showing up,” they explained.

Instagram started beta testing a version of the app without the Following feature in August, but every user can expect to see the feature removed sometime next week.

About Suicide Squad 2:

Details for the project have not been released. However, according to reports, the upcoming “Suicide Squad” feature film is filming under the code name “El Dorado”. It’s currently unknown what the story will revolve around, but this title could give us a little clue.

James Gunn will work as the writer and director for “The Suicide Squad” and will follow David Ayer’s 2016 film “Suicide Squad”. However, instead of being a sequel to the Ayer production, this is described as a new perspective to the franchise from the mind of Gunn that will feature a mix of new and old characters.

Viola Davis is coming back to play Amanda Waller, while Margot Robbie is set to reprise her role of Harley Quinn. Jai Courtney and Joel Kinnaman will be returning to play Captain Boomerang and Rick Flagg, respectively.

That said, Idris Elba will be replacing Will Smith but will play a new character and not Deadshot. Deadshot has been written out of the movie but may return in the future with Will Smith returning.

‘Judas and the Black Messiah‘ is now casting extras for a featured role in Cleveland, Ohio.

Casting directors are now hiring actors, models, and talent to work on October 22nd and 23rd in Cleveland, Ohio.

Producers are seeking the following types:

–Project: Featured Extra in “Untitled Fred Hampton Project” feature film, Warner Bros.
–Seeking: One African American male, age 50-60, with weathered features.

About “Judas and the Black Messiah”:

The film titled JUDAS & THE BLACK MESSIAH (formerly JESUS WAS MY HOMEBOY) is preparing to shoot in Cleveland this fall.

Daniel Kaluuya and his Get Out co-star Lakeith Stanfield to star in Jesus Was My Homeboy, a production that tells the true story of Fred Hampton, a Black Panther revolutionary, and activist who was assassinated in 1969.

Daniel Kaluuya will play Fred Hampton, an Illinois-born honors student who was active in the NAACP, brokered a non-aggression pact between two of Chicago’s gangs, coined the phrase “rainbow coalition,” and rose to prominence in the Black Panther Party on both the state and national level. Hampton was assassinated by the FBI and the Chicago Police Department at age 21 during a raid on his apartment.

Lakeith Stanfield will play William O’Neal, a car thief who had his charges dropped by becoming an FBI informant who worked his way into the Black Panthers, eventually becoming Hampton’s bodyguard and turning over a detailed layout of Hampton’s apartment to the authorities, which ultimately contributed to Hampton’s assassination. This film is said to “look at the rise and death of Hampton through O’Neal’s perspective.”

According to reports, the sequel to “Halloween”, “Halloween Kills”, is now filming under the production title “Mob Rules”. “Halloween Kills” is set to be the sequel to the 2018 movie which saw the return of Jamie Lee Curtis. David Gordon Green is returning to helm Halloween Kills as well as the third installment, Halloween Ends.

Universal and Blumhouse’s Halloween reboot movie opened to $76.2 million. It is the highest opening in the franchise’s history. The film ended up earning over $255 million globally and $159 million in the U.S. on a budget in the $10 million range.

‘Joker’ Earns $234 Million At The Box Office, Despite the Controversy

‘Joker‘ dominates the box office with $234 million.

The news is in for Todd Phillip’s ‘Joker’ and despite the controversy surrounding the movie, the film rocked the box office. ‘Joker’ brought in opening weekend earnings of $93.5 million with a domestic total of $234 million globally, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It is important to note, the movie has not even premiered in China yet, which means the box office total will continue to rise. The earnings overseas occurred across 70 different markets and is believed to have set records of their own, while in the U.S. ‘Joker’ beat last year’s ‘Venom’ which made $80 million in the box office. Currently, ‘Joker’ is one of the best R-rated openings of all time and the fifth-biggest movie of 2019.

The movie, which explores a struggling comedian Arthur Fleck’s evolution into a criminal, had a lot of controversies. ‘Joker’ had an R-rating and movie theaters implemented a policy by checking IDs and not admitting anyone under 17 years of age unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. According to PostTrak’s exit polling service, eight percent of moviegoers were between the ages of 13-17 and 65 percent between 18-34.

The demographics behind the movie were also studied and had the following results:

Caucasian: 44%
Hispanic: 24%
African American: 16%
Asians/Other: 14%

‘Abominable’ earned $12 million in the box office this weekend coming in second followed by ‘Downton Abbey’ with $8 million.

In comparison to other Batman movies, ‘The Dark Knight’ earned $158 million for its opening weekend. ‘Suicide Squad’ earned $133 million but, both movies were rated PG-13.

Sacha Baron Cohen Stayed in Character for Netflix’s ‘The Spy’

Sacha Baron Cohen opens up about how he stayed in character and why he changed from comedy to drama for Netflix’s ‘The Spy‘.

It is common for many comedians to move into dramatic acting roles, there are some actors who do it better than others. For instance, it would seem hard to believe Sacha Baron Cohen could ever pull off a serious role after hit comedies such as “Borat”, “Bruno” and “Talladega Nights”.

That said, Cohen is starring in his most high-profile role in the Netflix “The Spy”, where he plays the real-life Israeli spy Eli Cohen in the early 1960s who is known as a master impersonator. In an interview with the “New York Times”, Cohen opens up about his commitment to staying in character and why he was embarrassed to be into acting when he was a kid.

When asked for staying in character, Cohen says, “If somebody sees through the character, either the scene ends or the police are called. It can, very occasionally, turn violent. So I learned that I could never drop character. When I was playing Ali G, I remained Ali G. That was the result of a steep learning curve: One day, an interviewee walked in on me while I was out of character, and he complained to [Channel 4’s executives].” Cohen points out that while it’s very different material, he uses a similar approach when portraying Eli Cohen. He explains, “So when I’m in a scene as Eli Cohen, I am pretending like a kid would be, reacting to things that I’m hearing as if I’m Eli Cohen.”

Despite being a professional hit actor, Cohen admits that he had a hard time admitting he wanted to be an actor and he kept his love a secret. He says, “It was embarrassing to admit to other people that I wanted to be a comedian because I was essentially telling people that I thought I was funny. That’s as embarrassing as someone saying, ‘I want to be a model.’ You risk people saying ‘You’re far too ugly to become a model.”

Cohen added, “So I really kept my ambition to perform hidden, though I ended up going to Cambridge in order to join the Cambridge Footlights drama club. I was denied entry for three years but joined up in year four. I did a number of dramatic productions — Cyrano de Bergerac, Fiddler on the Roof, Tamburlaine the Great — so I had to learn how to act. That ended up being useful later in my career. But the idea of making a living from acting or being a comic was absurd.”

Cohen admits one aspect of his love of acting is that it is still embarrassing. “I love doing musicals. I even snuck in some musical numbers into the early Ali G Show. Musicals are my embarrassing passion; they give me joy.”

‘When They See Us’ Netflix Casting Director Shares Tips for Aspiring Actors

Netflix casting director, Aisha Coley (‘When They See Us’), reveals her tips to landing a role in a Netflix series.

Several months ago, Project Casting shared the casting call breakdown for the lead roles in ‘When They See Us’. Since then the series has become an award-winning drama and the cast members are known around the world.

Aisha Coley won an Emmy for her casting in the Netflix miniseries “When They See Us“. The series centers around the Central Park Five and chronicles the lives of five young people who were charged for a crime they did not commit.

Netflix audition tips:

In a recent conversation with Awards Daily, Coley opens up about her experiences casting the Netflix series, shares some details about how the cast was discovered, and in the process, she reveals advice for aspiring actors. Ultimately, it comes down to two major points.:

Research the role
Have a good manager
Know your acting skillsets and use them

Research the Role

Coley explains it all starts with research. She says, “The first thing we started with was research. We researched the five young men to get an idea of them. People knew about the case but didn’t know them intimately – who they were, how they spoke, how they moved. Then, we started looking for the kids. We cast a wide net to really just bring together some good kids for the younger roles. After that, we started narrowing it down based on looks and so forth.”

Have a good talent manager

Coley points to Jharrell Jerome who plays Korey Wise. Corey reveals, “He auditioned earlier on, but he was working on something that required him to have a beard at the time. He did a really good reading, but Ava really needed to see him without the beard because he was auditioning for young Korey. We waited, and his manager really stayed on it. She really gets a lot of credit here and really made sure he stayed on our radar. When he could shave the beard, he read for Ava in New York. When she saw him in the room, she realized maybe he could do both parts. He read both parts at the time. She sent me the tape, and he was amazing. He’s so talented and has a special quality that you see when he reads.”

Use your acting skills in the audition

When sharing advice on how to have a great audition, Coley uses Asante Blackk as an example, who plays Kevin Richardson in the show. She says, “The thing is to really know your craft and to be able to own it when you audition. When you go into auditions, each one is important. It’s important to show your best each time you walk in the room. Even if you don’t get this job, you may be under consideration for something else. Casting directors may remember you and bring you back for something else. Asante Blackk we read for another project before this one, and we remembered him for this. It’s just really important to make a great impression as well as keep studying and knowing your craft.”
