Movie Producer Steals $1.3 Million Dollars from Louisiana Film Industry?

Former Seven Arts Entertainment CEO Peter Hoffman accused of masterminding a fraudulent film tax credit scheme in Louisiana.

The former CEO of the Seven Arts Entertainment is under scrutiny after facing yet another indictment for allegedly stealing money from the government.

According to Deadline, federal prosecutors filed a 22 count indictment against, Peter Hoffman, his former business partner and New Orleans-based actor and film producer, Michael Arata and Hoffman’s ex-wife, Susan Hoffman. Together they were able to obtain $1.13 million dollars in Louisiana tax credits without ever doing the work that they told Louisiana state officials they were going to do in return.

The trio is facing charges of conspiracy, wire and mail fraud, and accused of filing misleading and false information that claimed that a certain amount of money was spent, when allegedly that was not the case.

The whole problem revolves around 807 Esplande, an abandoned mansion that was to be renovated and developed into a state of the art post production building and residence for film crews.

Hoffman was previously indicted in felony tax fraud charges but was later acquitted.

Hoffman maintains that it is the government, not he, that is involved in a conspiracy, and that his current legal problems are rooted in the fact that he was acquitted in 1997 on felony tax fraud charges brought against him by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles.

Hoffman argues that the government sees him as an individual trying to take advantage of Louisiana tax credits.

Total Recall

Hoffman became famous for creating tax haves in order to avoid paying taxes in the United States. In the late 1980’s, Hoffman created a system called the “Dutch Sandwhich” where he developed a legal method of decreasing the amount a film has to pay in taxes by involving Dutch and Netherlands shell corporations. He used this method in such films as Total Recall, The Doors, Rambo III and Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Hoffman went under investigation and was later acquitted.

What do you think of the case? Do you think Hoffman actually planned on trying to take money away from Louisiana? Or, do you think he was doing what any smart businessman should do in the film industry? Do you think the Federal government was right for stepping and trying to indict the film producer? Or, do you think Louisiana should have handled this on their own? Do you think state’s outside of California are open to tax fraud? What do you think? The Worst Drivers in Washington DC are School Bus Drivers

0

The worst drivers in Washington DC are actually school bus drivers.

The Washington Post recently conducted an investigation into DC traffic enforcement, and it turns out that some of the worst traffic offenders in the DC are actually city school bus drivers.

D.C. school buses racked up traffic camera violations. That School buses are 17 more times than the average driver in Washington D.C.

The school buses, driven by professionals whose job is to transport children to school were caught speeding and running red lights hundreds of times over the course of four years.

According to the Washington Post, DC uses only 750 school buses, whose drivers have been caught on camera speeding and running lights 347 between 2009 and 2013.

More than 20 drivers were caught on traffic cameras were also involved in crashes.

As a result of the tickets, no drivers were ever disciplined and they still owe the city around $13,000 in fines. The agency that controls the city bus fleet, The Office of the State Superintendent of Education, recently stated that they will be implementing changes that include the immediate termination of drivers caught speeding more than 15 miles over the speed limit.

If you are filming a movie in the Washington D.C. area watch out for those school buses because they are running red signs with a vengeance.

Two Pop Singers Attacked by a Fan with a Saw

0

Two members of popular Japanese pop group AKB48 were injured after a fan attacked them with a saw.

Rina Kawaei, and Anna Iriyama, 18, were meeting with fans in the northern city of Takizawa on Sunday when a man lunged forward and slashed them with a saw.

They received cysts on their hands and heads according to recent reports. A male staff member was also cut on his hand. The police later arrested the 24-year-old man, identified as Satoru Umeta.

A Tokyo concert scheduled for Monday night was later cancelled due to the recent attack.

AKB48, which was founded in 2005, is hugely popular in Japan and other Asian countries.

The group currently holds the Guinness Book of World Records for being the world’s largest pop group.

AKB stands for Akihabara, the technology district of Tokyo, where the group has its own theatre. Members perform there almost every day.

The number 48 reportedly refers to the original number of members in the group, although it has since expanded.

The current line-up on the group’s website, spread over four main teams and other smaller ones, lists 140 names.

Every year tens of thousands of fans vote on who gets to join the group from a pool of more than 200 candidates, in an event that is widely covered by national media.

After the recent incident it is very understandable that Miley Cyrus would file a restraining order against a crazed fan.

Filming for “Warcraft” Movie Has Finished Shooting

Filming for the upcoming Warcraft movie has finished shooting.

Director Duncan Jones has announced the news on his Twitter page and according to The Wrap, filming lasted 123 days.

Warcraft is set to hit theaters on March 11, 2016, but the movie is “done” yet. Principal photography is just the start of the production process. The movie still requires a ton of post-production work. The Award winning Star Wars effects studio “Light & Magic” is leading the post-production process, in an effort to bring the “Warcraft world to life.

Legendary Pictures and Blizzard Entertainment are keeping the plot and storyline details top secret. Their are no movie trailers for movie yet, but, according to recent reports, the movie will center on the origins of the battle between Orcs and Humans, and a movie trailer maybe released in time for Comic-Con in July.

According to Legendary Pictures producer Thomas Tull, the Warcraft movie is not just for fans of the game. It will have “big, universal themes” that should appeal to a broader audience, he says.

‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” is Being Made into a Movie

0

‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ Movie will bring back your childhood nightmares to the big screen.

Many kids growing up in the 1980’s and 1990’s can remember the frightening stores, “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” and according to recent reports, the book is being made into a movie.

Deadline.com has recently reported that CBS Films has accepted the plans from “Saw” writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to transform the short stories into a movie that centers on a group of outcast kids who work to save the town when their nightmares come true.

So get prepared for your favorite stories such as “The Dead Man’s Hand,” “The Hook,” and “The Big Toe”  to return after all these years.

What made the book so scary was in part due to the illustrator Stephen Gammell, so hopefully the movie will incorporate the haunting visions of the illustrator.

The author, Alvin Schwartz wrote three “Scary Storie” editions,e ash released between 1981 and 1991. The stories were backed on urban legends, and folklore.

There is no word yet on who will star in the movies, nor who will direct the feature film.

What do you think about the new movie? Do you think the writers of “Saw” can create a horrifying feature film with so many short stories? Should this be a kids film or a major production? Share with us your thoughts in the comments below!

Adam Sandler’s “Blended” is One of His Worst Movies Ever

0

Adam Sandler’s “Blended” is one of the worst Sandler’s worst movie releases.

The Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore feature film, “Blended” made $14 million dollars over Memorial Day weekend, and will most likely make $18 million dollars over the course of four days. Although, it is not considered a blockbuster letdown, it is still a financial bummer since it cost $45 million to produce; making “Blended” the one of the worst openings ever for Adam Sandler.

“That’s My Boy” managed to make $13.4 million dollars in 2012, and still holds the trophy for the worst Adam Sandler release ever. Even, the major disappointment, “Jack and Jill” managed to make $25 million.

Adam Sandler was once a major hit in the box office. His collaboration with Drew Barrymore were consistent box office block busters. The hit movie “50 First Dates” opened with $39.8 million.

“What this shows, after misses like ‘Jack and Jill,’ ‘That’s My Boy’ and ‘Blended,’ is that Sandler, like everyone else in the comedy world, now has to dig a bit deeper to deliver a hit these days,” said Exhibitor Relations vice-president and senior analyst Jeff Bock, “unless, of course, he plunges into ‘Grown Ups 3.’”

What may have happened is the target audience Adam Sandler was targeting has grown out of the typical Sandler jokes and comedy. For example, “Neighbors,” the Seth Rogen and Zac Efron comedy, is a recent R-rated comedy that even topped “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” in the second week. Illustrating the type of humor people now enjoy is different than before. Therefore, people are just sick of Adam Sandler.

Quentin Tarantino Wants “Django Unchained” TV Series

Quentin Tarantino Wants a ‘Django Unchained’ Miniseries on Television

Quentin Tarantino wants to create a ‘Django Unchained’ mini series for TV.

Tarantino wants to use 90 minutes of extra footage and turn it into a miniseries. Quentin Tarantino says he wants to release 90 minutes of new footage and turn it into a 4-hour television miniseries.

DJango-Unchained-Promo-Poster

How he will turn 90 minutes into 240, will be movie magic or a ton of commercials.

“I have about 90 minutes worth of material with ‘Django.’ It hasn’t been seen. My idea, frankly, is to cut together a four-hour version of ‘Django Unchained,’” USA Today reports Tarantino told an audience at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday. ”But I wouldn’t show it like a four hour movie. I would cut it up into hour chapters. Like a four-part mini-series. And show it on cable television. Show it like an hour at a time, each chapter.”

django-unchained-7

“Django Unchained” is a slavery revenge story featuring Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kristoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson. “Django Unchained” would win two Oscars in 2012 and become a hit in the box office.

Jamie Foxx, played a freed slave who joins a bounty hunter as he searches to find his long lost wife from a horrific plantation owner.

Foxx’s role was originally offered to Will Smith. But, Smith turned the role down because he felt he was not the leading actor in the movie.

“We’d use all the material I have and it wouldn’t be an endurance test. It would be a mini-series. And people love those,” Tarantino said. ”People roll their eyes at a four-hour movie. But a four-hour mini-series that they like, then they are dying to watch all four parts. That’s how I thought it could work.”

Adam Sandler Said He Filmed “Blended” for a Paid Vacation

0

Adam Sandler admits that his new movie “Blended” was an excuse for a Paid Vacation.

Blended, is the new Adam Sandler comedy reuniting Sandler and Drew Barrymore once again and according to recent reviews, the movie has not been quoted as a critical success.

But, Adam Sandler doesn’t care. He told Jimmy Kimmel Thursday night, that creating a good movie is not the point. The point is that he was able to get a paid vacation.

Adam Sandler probably feels this way after he read the recent review by the New York Times. Here are a few the critics had to say, you can read the full review here.

  • Because life is short and I have other things to be upset about, I will not dwell on the offensive aspects of”Blended,” the new Adam Sandler comedy: its retrograde gender politics; its delight in the humiliation of children…its quasi-zoological depiction of Africans as servile, dancing, drum-playing simpletons.
  • In my capacity as a film critic, I find myself more bothered by the sheer audience-insulting incompetence of the filmmaking and the writing. Duty compels me to identify Frank Coraci as the director and Ivan Menchell and Clare Sera as the authors of the script.
  • Most of “Blended” has the look and pacing of a three-camera sitcom filmed by a bunch of eighth graders and conceived by their less bright classmates.
  • There are comedians who mine their own insecurities for material. Mr. Sandler, in his recent films, compensates for his by building monuments to his own ego.
  • The tragedy is that Ms. Barrymore, who has brought out the best in Mr. Sandler in their previous collaborations (“The Wedding Singer” and “50 First Dates”) is here sacrificed on the altar of his showboating narcissism.
  • “Blended” is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). It will make your children stupid.

After reading the review you can not help but feel bad for Sandler.

When you decide to make a film, do you say ‘I wanna make this film somewhere where I can be on vacation?'” Kimmel asked.

“Yes,” Sandler admitted.

Blended was shot at the safari resort in South Africa and throughout Atlanta.

Your State’s Most Popular Google Search is Most likely Embarrassing

0

Your State’s most popular unique google search is probably super embarrassing.

There is one search term that your state Googles more than any other state in the country and unless you live in Maine or Tennessee, it is most likely extremely embarrassing.

Estately recently created a graphic that compiled all of these unique searches, which range from the akward “Do I have Herpes” in Texas to “Conjugal Visits” in Arizona.

I guess Massachusetts does not have much to worry about since they are too busy Googling “Canadian men”.

Don’t forget about “Butt Implants” in Georgia.

So, the next time you are debating between moving to Los Angeles or Georgia for the next film production, keep in mind a majority of the people are either thinking about “Butt Implants” or “Meat is Murder”.

‘Fast and Furious 7’ Record Breaking $50 Million Insurance Claim

0

When studios are spending millions to produce a movie, part of the movie’s cost goes to insurance. The insurance is used to protect them if anything goes wrong.

That is why certain actors such as Lindsay Lohans are “uninsurable” because insurance companies will not take a risk insuring an actor who frequently causes problems such as shooting delays. For example, a single cancelled day will cost a production company on average $250,000.

Fast and Furious 7 was delayed due to the death of their leading actor, Paul Walker, and as a result, the insurance claim on Paul was a record breaking $50 million dollars. On top of that, the movie budget has increased to $250 million dollars.

…insurance broker Brian Kingman of Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. believes Fireman’s Fund will have to pay more than $50 million on a film now estimated to cost $250 million or more. A spokesman for Fireman’s Fund declined comment, but in a 2012 discussion about the challenges of movie-business insurance, Fireman’s Fund entertainment underwriting director Wendy Diaz noted that delays alone can cost as much as $250,000 a day on a big- budget movie, adding up to “millions of dollars.”

A shoot set to wrap in January now is scheduled to end in July, requiring the production to pay stars including Vin Diesel more to keep them longer. Fireman’s Fund is not on the hook for the entire cost of finishing the movie because Universal must pay what it would have cost to complete the project had the accident not occurred. But therein lies the dispute because it is a matter of judgment what producer Neal Moritz and the studio felt was required to finish the film without Walker. [Hollywood Reporter]

fast and furious 7 casting call gif

But, there are a ton of additional costs, now that Paul Walker’s role will still be featured in the movie:

“They are finishing the film more or less as scripted, replacing Paul with [computer-generated] face replacement,” says this person. “They have two of Paul’s brothers as well as an actor to ‘play’ Paul when needed.” (The Walker brothers, 25-year-old Cody and 36-year-old Caleb, both are helping fill in for their brother physically — Caleb primarily for body size and mannerisms and Cody for the eyes. But the filmmakers need to create a character that not only looks like Paul but also performs like him. That’s the actor’s job.) Peter Jackson’s Weta is tackling the effects work using three cameras (in addition to the main-unit cameras) to capture Walker’s stand-ins for face replacement. “There is a massive amount of gear,” reports the source. “Everything they want with Paul gets done three times over. Three [actors] times seven cameras per shot is a clusterf— of money being spent.” [Hollywood Reporter]

vin-diesel-paul-walker-brothers

Everything has to be done three times using seven different cameras per shot. If you have ever been on set, doing a scene twice can be frustrating enough but, seven times. Talk about a long and slow process to film a movie. Consider this a stop motion feature film animating all of Paul Walker’s parts.

Toni Braxton Says God Gave Her Son Autism Because She had an Abortion

0

Toni Braxton dropped a few hits in her new memoir, but one of the largest bombshells she said is her belief that god gave her 11-year-old son autism because she once had an abortion.

Ton Braxton in her new memoir, Unbreak My Heart, discusses an abortion she had in 2001 and writes that her guilt over her procedure was due to her deeply religious upbringing.

“I was suddenly faced with a choice I’d never thought I’d have to make. Amid my major misgivings about abortion, I eventually made the gut-wrenching decision… In my heart, I believed I had taken a life — an action that I thought God might one day punish me for. … My initial rage was quickly followed by another strong emotion: guilt. I knew I’d taken a life… I believed God’s payback was to give my son autism.”

Toni Braxton later argues and puts the blame on vaccinations, writing “Maybe it’s just a coincidence that after my son’s first MMR vaccine, I began to notice changes in him.”

Braxton would later state in an interview with People Magazine, saying she was punished for having an abortion. But, realized there is nothing wrong with her child. “He just learns differently.”

College Freshman, Outed as Porn Actress, Commits Suicide

0

College Freshman was outed as a porn actress and later commits suicide.

Nineteen-year-old Alyssa Funke, a freshman at the University of Wisonconsin-Riverfalls, bought a shotgun, and killed herself on April 14th.

Students at her former high school publicly outed her as the star of a “casting couch” porn video, and her parents say the online harassment contributed to her suicide.

According to reports, Alyssa Funke was a straight-A student, and did her first and only porn video for the website CastingCouchX, earlier this year. She used the fake name Stella Ann and talked with the camera man about high school, college, and sports.

Screen-Shot-2014-05-22-at-2.46.48-PM

After the video premiered, Funke started receiving hateful and nasty Twitter and Facebook messages from her former high school classmates in Minnesota. Many of the messages involved calling her a slut and worse.

Her two final tweets she writes, “Famous for dayzzzzz,” and “Pornstar Status”.

Alyssa Funke’s parents said she suffered from depression, but they believe the harassment is what put her over the edge and played a role in her decision to kill herself.

On a fundraiser page that the parents of Alyssa started, they wrote  “Alyssa like so many other teens was a victim of bully and sadly the bullying lead to her death. Social media has revolutionized the way people bully eachother now days. Now you can say whatever you want and not have to look the person in the face while doing it.”

A sad part of this story is that the fundraising page only received $125 dollars in donations.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the circumstance of Funke’s death.

The Walking Dead started filming for season 5 over a week ago and it looks like Season 5 is going to be better than ever.

“Everyone’s happy to be back together, so it’s been pretty great and everybody’s bringing their A game still, 5 years in. We’re doing new and different and crazy and exciting things and now I think the atmosphere is that we can’t wait until we can start sharing things with people and start showing things to people because we’re really excited about what we’re doing here. We think we’re making another magical season.” [Entertainment Weekly]

Kirkman also points out that there are going to be a ton of cliffhanger episodes and surprises. So much so, that they have increased secrecy on set. “Just because any images that get out of any kind of things that are seen do in a sense spoil that cliffhanger, so we’re trying to keep things a little more tight this time around.”

The Walking Dead‘s creator commented on how Season 4 was somewhat slow as the group was separated and there was a focus on the individual stories of each of the characters. But, he points out that the possibility of cannibals in Terminus, will definitely heighten the suspense for season 5. He argues that what makes The Walking Dead so great is that the show will slow down for periods of time and then out of nowhere things will speed up keeping the audience on guard.

Job Security Sucks for Actors – NBC and CW Network Recast Several Actors

0

If booking a role is not hard enough, it is even tougher for actors to keep their jobs in the long run.

In the newly picked up TV show, NBC‘s “Bad Judge” producers are asked to recast two roles played in the pilot by Mather Zickel (I Love You Man) and Arden Myrin (Mad TV). According to Deadline, the two characters on NBC’s Bad Judge are expected to be reworked on the show. The television series recently added Liz Brizius as the show runner on the television series and stars Kate Walsh as a wild child who knows how to have a good time while also being one of the toughest judges in Los Angeles.

Mather Zickel played Gary in the television series, a psychiatrist who has an on-again, off-again relationship with Rebecca. Myrin played Jenny, Rebbecca’s best friend and listener to all of the crazy gossip and romantic news.

In addition to NBC, the CW drama iZombie will be replacing Alexandra Krosney (Last Man Standing). The CW Network’s iZombie comes from Warner Bros. Television and centers on a supernatural crime drama that centers on a med student turned zombie who takes a job at a coroner’s office and ends up solving homicide cases.

But, these two shows are not the only shows that big networks are recasting, The Odd Couple and NBC’s Mission Control are also recasting roles.

Just as you think that you are set for a recurring role on a television series, you may never know when executives may not like what they see.
