Super Bowl XLIX, televised by NBC, exceeded the record with a starting price of $4.5 million. Media execs forecasted that the cost of a 30-second commercial could surpass $5 million at Super Bowl 50, a figure that CBS approved. The U.S. TV broadcast of the Super Bowl, which is the championship game of the National Football League (NFL), highlights many major commercials, also known as Super Bowl ads. The sensation is a result of the game’s remarkably high viewership and wide demographics:

  • Super Bowl games have frequently been among the United States’ most-watched television broadcasts.
  • Nielsen estimated Super Bowl XLIX in 2015 was watched by at least 114.4 million viewers in the United States, exceeding the prior year’s Super Bowl as the top-rated television show in U.S. history.
  • Advertisers have used advertisements during the Super Bowl as a way of raising awareness for their products and services among this broad audience, while additionally attempting to create noise around the ads themselves so they may obtain extra exposure, such as growing into a viral phenomenon.

National surveys including USA Today Super Bowl Ad Meter judge which ad carried the best viewer response and CBS has aired yearly specials since 2000 following well-known commercials from the game.

Super Bowl commercials have grown iconic and recognized because of their quality, humor, and special effects. The use of celebrity appearances has also been common in Super Bowl ads. A number of major brands, including Budweiser, Coca-Cola, Doritos, GoDaddy, Master Lock, and Tide have been well known for making several commercials during the Super Bowl.

How much does a Super Bowl Ad cost?

The influence of displaying a commercial during the Super Bowl has also led to an increasingly high cost:

  • The cost of a 30-second commercial during the Super Bowl has ranged from $37,500 at Super Bowl I, to around $2.2 million at Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000, and by Super Bowl XLIX in 2015, had doubled to around $4.5 million.

Disney Parks is known for a Super Bowl commercial advertising campaign associated with the game called “What’s Next?”, but more regularly known as “I’m going to Disney World!”. The ads feature a player from the winning team (typically the MVP) responding with the famous declaration after being asked what they would do after the Super Bowl. These ads typically premiere on the day after the Super Bowl.

James Gunn will work as the writer and director for “The Suicide Squad” and will follow David Ayer’s 2016 film “Suicide Squad”. However, instead of being a sequel to the Ayer production, this is described as a new perspective to the franchise from the mind of Gunn that will feature a mix of new and old characters.

Viola Davis is coming back to play Amanda Waller, while Margot Robbie is set to reprise her role of Harley Quinn. Jai Courtney and Joel Kinnaman will be returning to play Captain Boomerang and Rick Flagg, respectively.

That said, Idris Elba will be replacing Will Smith but will play a new character and not Deadshot. Deadshot has been written out of the movie but may return in the future with Will Smith returning.
