Here is what you should expect at an audition for Film, TV and theater roles.
First off, it is essential to be seen by casting directors, have it be for TV Projects, Film, or even Theater. You must showcase your abilities for every opportunity that comes your way. Unless you are an A-list actor, auditioning is going to become a normal process. It is important to note that classes on auditioning, or the tidbits of information that you learned over the years may be okay for the beginning. Still, professional auditions require another level of expertise.
The film, Theater, and TV all have their different audition procedures. Here are a few things you should know for Film, Theater, and Television.
Film
As an actor, you will typically work closely with the casting director and producer. Your audition performance will be recorded and sent to the director and other members of the production team. But at times, the audition process varies, all depending upon the director and the creative production team.
Many actors have commented that they had an audition with a single casting director and a camera to auditioning to a room of ten people. Usually, castings move faster in films than they do in theater.
It is not abnormal for casting directors to choose who they would like for the lead role weeks before the filming is set to begin. However, the casting director typically would like to give actors the most amount of time possible to prepare their sides. For more significant and leading roles, casting directors tend to give people a few days to a week to make themselves for the position.
At times it may be more difficult for an actor that is unrepresented to be cast for a film, but make sure to stay updated with Project Casting to hear about the latest Casting information and Casting Calls.
Theater
What To Expect at an Audition? TV, Film, & Theater
For a professional theater calls, a casting director may choose to have you for a “pre-read” or “pre-screen” audition. The casting director of Broadway’s Spiderman is notorious for bringing an actor in for a “pre-read” and connects with the actor to see if he or she is a good match for the role. Sometimes up to 15 individuals can discuss your audition; this is because musicals and theatrical performances require more individuals in the creative team, such as composers, lyricists, choreographers, and the music director.
Generally, theatrical auditions will give you two to four days to prepare songs and sides for your audition. Expect to be given sides instead of a whole script for your audition. Furthermore, and expect several callbacks before actually receiving the role.
But become prepared, casting directors to have little sympathy for being unprepared. Also, actors who do not have an agent or representation can go to the Equity Principal Auditions, which are open to union members. But it is also essential to build your reputation with regional performances; ultimately, your resume does matter.
Television
All TV auditions are the same, and many casting calls for dramas and single-camera comedies require a different process than a sitcom. Furthermore, landing a role on a pilot is of higher importance than landing a small guest role on an established show; This is because you have the opportunity to see how the show is set up and what casting directors are looking to see in the project. But, for pilots, the creative team is not sure what they are looking for, and it is hard to determine what they would like to see in the performance. Also, do not expect a lot of attention during your audition for many established shows. Many actors comment that casting directors will be on the phone and texting while they said their monologues and acted out specific scenes. Take these experiences as they come, and do not become overwhelmed or intimidated.
Without an agent, the process of becoming an established actor is more complicated. But it is not impossible. You can land an audition by submitting your headshot, resume, and a short cover letter explaining why you would be suitable for the show.

Casting directors filter through hundreds, if not thousands of head-shots and resumes every day. So how do you effectively stand out from the crowd, and not have your submission thrown in the trash? So, here is a list of helpful hints on what to do for submitting to roles.
Take your time- Avoid sending a blank email with just a head-shot and a resume. Take your time and make each email seem that it took time and effort before you press send on your computer screen. Avoid sending visible generic emails. For example, “To whom it may concern” is an evident and dead giveaway that this email is simply a draft that is recycled over and over to numerous casting directors. Take your time and do your research on the casting director. Something as simple as addressing them by their name can go a long way.
Ask Questions- If you have any questions or concerns, address them in your email. It is often considered rude to quit a project later because you failed to ask the casting director earlier for more information. There is “usually” no such thing as a dumb question.
Submit Wisely – Do not submit to something you do not fit the description. Casting directors must filter through thousands of head-shots and resumes every day, and by offering your information to something that does not apply to you makes their job more difficult. Thus, probably less likely to hire you in the future.
Create an Acting resume- Your professional resume should stand alone from your acting resume. Your professional resume and acting resume are two different things in the entertainment industry. So, take the time to write a resume on your acting experiences. If you are not sure how to create an acting resume, then visit Getting Started. Furthermore, do not include your background, stand-in, or photo double work in your acting resume. Those areas of practice do not illustrate your acting talent.
Submit Authentic Pictures- Do not submit older pictures of yourself. You want your head-shots to resemble what you look like regularly, not twenty years ago.
Do NOT Procrastinate– Typically, the earlier you submit the hirer your chances. So do not wait until the last minute to submit to any opportunity. Most of the time, the people who waited ultimately missed their chance of acting in a major feature film.
Personalize- Personalize your email or cover letter. Here is a great example to draw casting directors attention:
“Hi (Name of the Casting Director),
I saw your Casting Call for the new film (Name of the Film) on Project Casting’s website, and I would like to be considered for the role of (Name of the Character). This sounds like a fantastic project, and I felt that I connected personally with (something related to the project). I firmly believe I would be great for this role because of my acing experience (highlight some acting experience that you had in the past).

Stand-in – here is everything you need to know about working on-set as a stand-in.
Many TV shows and movies hire stand-ins. If you are hired as a stand-in, your role will be one step above being an extra (with the extra pay sometimes to prove it). You should know, if you are standing in, then you most likely will not get to talk to anyone most of the day. Instead, you will be listening and following directions, and you will usually be doing a lot of standing in one place with occasional movement or sitting.
What are stand-ins responsibilities?
You will be the point of reference for the crew. The director will use you to work out blocking and how things look on the camera. The camera guy will use you to get angles, measurements, and distances to ensure proper focusing. The lighting people will use you to make sure shadows and lights are properly placed or displaced. The grips will mark where you are (usually with tape on the floor) for the actors to have points of reference on where and when they need to be in specific spots (also known as ‘marks’ or ‘hitting their marks’)
It’s essential to watch the director’s / scene during rehearsal. It is crucial to watch what the principal actor is doing; what hand they lead with, which way they walk around an object, etc., etc. You need to COPY their movements. If they drink with their left hand, then you need to drink with your left hand. Your primary role is to get the lighting right and to make life easier for the actor and crew.
Typically, you will stand where the actors are to be within a scene. A lot of movement, measuring, and talking will happen as you stand there and stare straight ahead with a large piece of tape across your chest, labeling you like a particular character. If there an actor moves in the scene, you may get to cross or banana to another position, where a crew member will place another piece of tape. Then more measuring and movement by the crew will take place. Ultimately, time will come where the actors will walk on set, and your job is to leave set quietly and wait until they call you back.
Some sets will also give you a script to follow along and possibly act out the scenes as they work out the blocking and lighting, which is an excellent opportunity for aspiring actors.
You will need to stay close by the set. For example, if the assistant director is looking for the stand-ins and the crew cannot find you, you can usually be easily replaced by someone who will be more attentive and resembles your appearances.
Top 5 Tips For working as a Stand-In
1. Be early
Plan your day, so you arrive at least 30-60 mins before your call time. By arriving early, it gives you plenty of time to eat breakfast and get to know the crew. Keep in mind, the connections you make today could lead to paying work and speaking roles tomorrow.
2. Be observant
Stand-ins should watch closely during rehearsals. Take note of blocking, marks, and crosses, even the pace the actor walks during rehearsal and what they do with their hands and their stance when standing still. (When working as a stand-in for Tyler Perry Studios’ TV shows — if you don’t take notes on your sides/script, you will get in trouble for not taking notes. Moreover, you’ll be clueless during the crew read-thru rehearsal.)
3. Be alert
Don’t text or read a book or go on your phone during takes as a stand-in. As an actor, you need to watch what’s going on. Watching the actors perform, and the director direct is like getting paid to take an acting class. That experience is valuable. Take advantage of being hired to watch and work on set.
4. Be ready
Being a stand-in also means being on stand-by. I make it my aim to try to already be in place before a crew member calls for the “second team.”
5. Above all, be professional and be cool
Don’t talk to cast or the director/producers/VIPs. Don’t get in the way of the crew, no matter what or when. Don’t ever point out anything to crew or correct them on anything unless it’s a safety issue. Don’t make waves, and don’t make a spectacle of yourself or give someone important a reason to want to fire you. Stand-ins replaceable, and sometimes you’ll even see extras vying for your job. If you are calm and professional, you won’t get replaced.

“Lunchables” are a line of lunch products made by Kraft Foods, Inc. They are marketed under Oscar Meyer in the United States and many “Lunchable” products are produced at Kraft Foods, Inc. in California.
“A typical Lunchables meal combination includes crackers, small slices of meat, and an equal number of slices of cheese. Other varieties include pizza, small hot dogs, small burgers, nachos, subs, and wraps. Overall there are 26 different kinds of Lunchables meals. “Deluxe” versions, which were originally developed for adults, included two types of meats and two types of cheeses.”

Besides, mens fashion is all about comfort and style together. It would be horrible to work on set in the cold and light jacket. Switch it up, you will love the difference! If you saw ‘Expenables 2’ everyone will note how much swag Sylvester Stallone had dressed as a mercenary. So why not borrow some of his rough style? It is hard to beat the manliness of military clothing. So find a nice military coat (stray away from camouflage) and mix it up with a pair of boots and hey, you might be able to land that role in ‘Expendables 3’!
Watch your Watch!
This is not exclusive to 2013, but just a good style practice to keep up with. Change your watch’s wristband. Last summer, many fashion designers created large playful colors that will allow you to change your wristband to match your outfit accordingly. So, now that 2013 is here continue with the trend with multiple wristbands for your favorite watch.

Dress shoes are not as popular in 2013, as they were in 2012. What many fashion designers are bragging about and boasting for are boots. Now don’t go through your grandparents closet looking for an old pair of cowboy boots. What fashionistas are commenting on are long, leather boats with a dark black or brown tone. Try to find something that compliments well with your wardrobe. This will add a layer of versatility and complexity to your style, and any outfit. Also, it won’t leave your feet wet in the rain.
Suit Up
Probably one of the most important and crucial outfits for any aspiring actor. Many casting directors, photographers, and agents want to see how you look in professional attire. So, this year 2013 invest in a proper suit that illustrates the style you have in a conservative fashion. When it comes to suits, a three-button suit is very cliche, and almost out of fashion. Look for a two-button jacket. This will make you look more slimming and taller. Also, it is worth noting that pocket squares are soaring in popularity. Not only can a pocket sqaure add colour or texture to an outfit. It will also draw attention away from the stomach to make you look slimmer!
Full Figured Fashion Week is currently holding a model casting tour and they are looking for plus size models!
Lane Bryant stores will be holding a nationwide plus size model casting for models to appear in fashion week this coming spring 2013!
The search is on for plus size gals to strut their stuff down the cat walk in Full Figured Fashion Week to be held in New York City, produced by DeVoe. The full figured fashion event has been held annually since 2009 and caters to the multi-billion dollar plus size clothing market.
Are you a plus size lady who has always wanted a chance to strut down the catwalk in fabulous clothes? Well her is your chance to audition to be a plus size model.
Casting calls and model tryouts are taking place from now through March in cities all over the U.S. – The events are open to anyone who fits the requirements.
The requirements to model are as follows:
Models must be a plus size 14 to 20
Models must be at least 5’8?, without shoes, however the casting directors may consider shorter models if they look stunning on the runway
If planning on attending the plus size model casting please be sure to come prepared with either a comp card or 2 photos (face and full body). Make sure the photos are sharp and there are no props or obstructions (sunglasses, hats, etc.) Please be sure to bring only current photos that show you exactly as you are now. Photos over a year old will not be considered.
The comp cards and photos will be left with the casting directors and will not be returned.
Make sure to wear flattering, form fitting clothes that show off your natural curves and wear a 3 to 4 inch heal that has a closed toe and heel (No sandals, slingbacks, boots, platforms, etc.). Wear shoes and clothes that you will be comfortable walking in since models will be required to walk for the casting directors.
Please come with your hair and makeup already done.

Casting Directors are seeking individuals who are HIV Positive who would like to be featured in a print advertisement for “Issentress”an anti-HIV (antiretroviral) medicine by Merck Pharmaceuticals used for the treatment of HIV.
“Issentress” blocksan enzyme which the virus needs in order to make more virus. The enzyme that this blocks is called integrase.
When used with other anti-HIV medicines “Issentress” may do two things: 1. Reduce the amount of HIV in your blood. 2. Increase the number of white blood cells called CD4 (T) cells.
The print ads are life affirming and focus on living life to the fullest even if you are HIV positive.
They are looking for HIV+ people with strong, fun personalities who are working and living in South Florida.
Dress casual day time or work attire that is your own style.

Within the entertainment industry there are a few things that matter. First and foremost, is your acting talent. How well can you present yourself and your character across the screen. Second, would be your connections. Most people would argue that you could be the best actor in the world, but if you are not connected with high profile agents, directors, or actors, your talent maybe never heard.
Finally, many would say that your health is essential. If you are called to an audition it would be horrible to be under the weather, or too sick to even portray your character’s role. Therefore, it is important that you take simple health steps to promoting not only your career in the entertainment industry but for yourself as well.
Here is our 10 Essential Health Tips (The Basics to Practice Every Day to take your Career to the Next LEVEL!)
1. Move More
Make it a daily challenge to find different ways to move your body. For example, if you had the choice of taking the stairs or the elevator. It would be in your best interest to take the stairs. Or try other challenges as walking your dog, chasing your kids, playing sports with friends, or even mowing the lawn. These simple changes can be dramatic to your health. Anything that moves your body is not only a fitness tool, but it helps relieve Stress!
2. Cut Fat
Avoid obvious unhealthy food choices such as fried foods, burgers or other fatty meats such as pork, bacon, ham and ribs. Dairy products such as cheese and milk should be consumed only in low fat versions. While nuts and sandwich meets should be eaten in small amounts. Substitute high calorie versions of food, for the lower fat, and substitute food products. Your body will thank you later!
3. Quit Smoking
Ever since 1960 when the Surgeon General announced that smoking was harmful to your health. Americans have been reducing the use of tobacco products. It would not be in your best interest to develop a cold, or cough while you audition for the role of a lifetime. Yes, many will argue that stopping smoking is difficult, if not impossible. But, just give up one cigarette at a time and you will reach your goal in no time.
4. Reduce Stress
Many misunderstand the dangers of stress. High levels of stress have been known to cause your immune system to become weaker, therefore, you are more likely to get sick. Also, stress causes your body to store fat more easily than a stress free lifestyle. So, when something is beginning to bother you. Take the iniative and turn that bad stress into something good. Your health and career is depending upon it.
5. Protect Yourself from Pollutants
This may be directed to those living in high smog areas. Avoid going to smoke-filled rooms, high traffic areas, or breathing in highway fumes. This may increase the likelihood of developing wrinkles, cancer, or other detriments to your health. So, exercise outside when the smog rating is low and exercise indoors in air conditioning when air quality is good.
6. Wear Your Seat Belt
So many accidents can turn for bad to worse, if an individual fails to wear a seatbelt. So, take those few seconds to save your life. You will appreciate it in the long run.
7. Floss Your Teeth
Recent studies have shown that there is a correlation, or a connection between how long you live and how much you floss your teeth. No one has been able to determine why, but flossing helps prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and other dental related problems. A few minutes a day can go a long way to making your smile beautiful. Hey, you want to be remebered for your beautiful smile, not for what was stuck between your teeth.
8. Avoid Excessive Drinking
Recent studies have shown a glass of wine or drink a day is actually able to protect your body from heat disease, but, excessive drinking can cause weight gain, kidney and liver disease. Remember, a large bottle of wine should last a long time.
9. Stay Positive!
You may not get your first audition, second, third, or even fourth. But, you must not ever let that discourage you. Keep a positive outlook and this will not only help you achieve your goals but, help make advances in your health. There is a definitive connection between living well and having a cheerful outlook on life.
10. Drink Milk
Milk has shown to improve bone density. Something extremely important for many women who are and will one day experience osteoporosis. So, have a glass of non-fat milk a day and this will go a long way!
Conclusion
Overall, these 10 health tips are basic but, many would argue necessary for yourself, and taking your career to the new level. So, in the future, feel confident at your next audition because you have made the right steps for your career and for yourself.
