Job Description
Welder Underground is seeking a skilled cinematographer to join its media team and document the daily work, people, and learning environment inside a live fabrication studio and apprenticeship program. This role blends documentary-style storytelling with cinematic visuals, capturing authentic moments inside a fast-paced workshop environment.
The cinematographer will collaborate closely with the media team to plan, shoot, and edit videos for social media and storytelling initiatives. The ideal candidate enjoys observing real moments as they unfold, anticipating compelling visuals, and transforming everyday activities into engaging visual stories.
This position also involves filming outside the shop environment, including visits to welding and fabrication facilities, connecting with tradespeople, and telling the stories of people and places connected to the skilled trades industry.
Job Responsibilities

Capture documentary-style footage inside a working fabrication studio

Operate professional video equipment to film high-quality footage

Collaborate with the media team to plan shot concepts and story direction

Edit footage into polished video content for social media and digital platforms

Document apprentices, instructors, and daily shop activities

Organize media files and maintain efficient backup systems

Assist with post-production tasks including editing, color grading, and sound adjustments

Participate in storytelling and creative planning with the production team
Requirements

Experience operating professional cameras such as DSLRs or mirrorless systems

Experience with Sony FX30 or FX3 cameras preferred

Strong understanding of manual exposure and camera settings

Ability to capture stable handheld footage and dynamic camera movement

Comfortable filming unscripted moments in active environments

Video editing experience with Adobe Premiere Pro

Familiarity with color grading, basic sound design, and post-production workflows

Experience using Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or After Effects preferred

Compensation
