A new digital storytelling project is casting 19 paid, non-union voice-over roles for an immersive historical experience exploring Chinese Canadian migration in British Columbia from the 1880s through the 1930s. The production is seeking voice actors who speak English, Cantonese, Toisanese, or Japanese. Performances should feel authentic, grounded, and naturalistic rather than cartoonish, stylized, or exaggerated. The project uses immersive 3D environments and interactive storytelling to bring historical characters and experiences to life.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide voice-over performances for characters featured in an interactive digital storytelling experience.
- Deliver authentic, grounded, and naturalistic character performances.
- Record short voiced segments in the language required for the selected role.
- Follow creative and performance direction during the recording session.
- Help authentically represent stories connected to Chinese Canadian history.
- Audition for one or multiple suitable roles based on voice type and language ability.
Requirements
- Voice actors who speak English, Cantonese, Toisanese, or Japanese.
- Ability to deliver naturalistic performances without exaggerated or cartoon-style characterization.
- Voice should appropriately match the character or roles selected for audition.
- Must be available to record at the UBC recording studio in British Columbia.
- Recording commitment is approximately 1–2 hours.
- Non-union performers.
Compensation
- $100 per hour.
- Approximately 1–2 hours of recording.
- Paid non-union engagement.
- Parking or transit costs to the UBC recording studio will be covered.
