The 2024 BlackStar Film Festival is excited to announce that submissions are now open! We are seeking dynamic and creative works from Black, Brown, and Indigenous filmmakers. The festival is an exceptional platform for showcasing short and feature-length films across all genres. Notably, BlackStar is an Oscar-qualifying festival for films awarded our Best Short Narrative and Best Short Documentary honors.
Job Responsibilities:
- Film Submission: Filmmakers are required to submit their short or feature-length films for consideration in the festival.
- Promotional Material: Provide promotional materials for your film, including a synopsis, filmmaker bio, and film stills.
- Festival Participation: If selected, filmmakers must be prepared to participate in festival activities, which may include Q&A sessions, panel discussions, and networking events.
- Rights and Clearances: Ensure that all necessary rights, clearances, and releases for public screening are obtained for your film.
Requirements:
- Eligibility: Open exclusively to Black, Brown, and Indigenous filmmakers.
- Genres: All film genres are welcome.
- Film Length: Both short films (under 40 minutes) and feature-length films are accepted.
- Completion Date: Films must have been completed after January 1, 2023.
- Premiere Status: Preference may be given to films that have not yet had a major theatrical release or extensive festival run.
- Submission Format: Films should be submitted in a digital format, as per festival guidelines.
- Language: Non-English films must have English subtitles.
Compensation Details:
- Entry Fee: Please refer to the festival’s submission guidelines for details on entry fees and waivers.
- Awards: Winners of Best Short Narrative and Best Short Documentary will be eligible for consideration in the Short Film categories at the Academy Awards.
