Job Description: Join the cast of “Rutka: A New Musical,” making its world premiere. This powerful indie-rock musical is set in 1943 war-torn Poland, where Rutka and her friends navigate the turbulence of adolescence within the confines of a Jewish Ghetto. Based on the poignant real-life diary of 14-year-old Rutka Laskier, this production aims to convey a message of hope, resilience, and resistance through compelling historical drama and music.
Role Synopsis: MULEK – a young male character required to be played by an actor 18+ who can convincingly portray a 14-year-old. Mulek is characterized as fun-loving, somewhat goofy, and perceives himself as more suave than reality might suggest. He is jovially infatuated with Rutka and generally has a crush on all the girls he meets. He is also best friends with Janek.
Responsibilities:
- Portray the character of Mulek with depth and authenticity, capturing his youthful enthusiasm and emotional complexities.
- Participate in all scheduled rehearsals and performances.
- Collaborate effectively with the cast and production team to develop a coherent and moving portrayal of life in a Jewish Ghetto during WWII.
- Bring strong singing capabilities with folk/indie rock sensibilities to the role.
Requirements:
- Male actor, 18+ years old, capable of playing a young teen.
- Strong singing voice; ability to perform with indie/folk rock style. Vocal range should comfortably reach at least a G.
- Must be able to engage with emotional and historical content sensitively and convincingly.
- Previous acting experience in musical theatre preferred but not essential.
- Must be open to feedback and able to modify performances as directed.
- ALL ethnicities are welcomed and encouraged to audition.
Compensation Details:
- Weekly salary of $1,100 minimum, under the LORT (League of Resident Theatres) agreement.
- Additional benefits include potential eligibility for health and pension plans under the LORT agreement.
