Job Summary: “Rutka: A New Musical” is a poignant and powerful indie-rock musical set in 1943 Poland during World War II. It tells the story of Rutka and her friends living in a Jewish ghetto amidst the turmoil of war, as seen through the eyes of teenagers grappling with normal adolescent issues amidst extraordinary circumstances. This role is for the character Mordechai, a young man in his 20s to early 30s, who is part of the Judenrat, tasked with enforcing Nazi-imposed regulations within the ghetto.
Job Responsibilities:
- Portray the character of Mordechai, who oscillates between authority and vulnerability, trying to maintain order while grappling with moral complexities.
- Participate in ensemble roles, showcasing versatility in acting and vocal performance.
- Collaborate with the director, musical director, and fellow cast members to develop a cohesive portrayal of the characters and narrative.
- Attend all rehearsals and performances as scheduled, contributing to a positive and productive working environment.
Requirements:
- Strong vocal ability with folk/indie rock sensibilities; ability to mix/belt to at least a G for male roles.
- Excellent acting skills with the ability to portray complex emotional dynamics and character development.
- Previous experience in musical theatre preferred, but not required.
- Must be open and respectful of working in a diverse and inclusive environment that reflects the contemporary world in terms of racial diversity and gender identification.
Compensation Details:
- Contract salary: $1,100 per week, adhering to the LORT minimum standards.
- Additional benefits include health insurance and pension contributions as per LORT regulations.
- Travel and accommodation expenses for non-local actors may be discussed depending on individual circumstances.
