Job Description
A USC graduate short film titled “The Root in the Marsh” is now casting actors for a powerful, non-dialogue project exploring themes of domestic power, trauma, and breaking cycles of violence. This visually driven film relies heavily on physical storytelling and facial expression to convey emotion and narrative. The story follows a family impacted by a mysterious and supernatural connection to a marsh root, culminating in a tense and symbolic confrontation.
Job Responsibilities
- Deliver emotionally driven performances without dialogue
- Use strong facial expressions and body language to communicate story and character
- Follow direction closely in a physically expressive and stylized production
- Participate in rehearsals and on-set blocking as required
Requirements
- Strong physical acting and non-verbal storytelling skills
- Ability to portray intense emotional states convincingly
- Comfortable performing in dramatic and psychologically intense scenes
- Must be 18+ (for all roles)
- Prior acting experience preferred
Roles Include:
- The Mother (Female, 40–45): A survivor of domestic abuse who uses a ritualistic method to reclaim power. Requires a calm yet intense presence and the ability to convey deep emotion through stillness and precision
- The Father (Male, 40–50): Physically imposing and volatile. Must portray sudden, intense internal pain and emotional unpredictability through physical performance
- The Daughter (Female, 18+ to play 15–18): Tense and guarded, with a gradual emotional build toward a breaking point. Must convincingly portray vulnerability and strength
