Job Description
“Dinner with a Side of Murder: Mystery of the Murdered Mobster” is casting multiple actors and interactive performers for an original dinner-theater production set in Chicago in 1940. The story begins after Angelo Marconi, the owner of Angelo’s Italian Restaurant and a suspected crime boss, is murdered. His family, associates, employees, and other suspicious characters gather for the reading of his will, turning the evening into an interactive murder mystery. The production is seeking performers for roles ranging from members of the Marconi family and rival mob connections to police, restaurant employees, and security. The production will be presented at The Burton Leavitt Theatre in Connecticut, with rehearsals held twice weekly once they begin.
Job Responsibilities
- Portray an assigned character in the 1940s murder mystery production.
- Develop a convincing character appropriate to the period, storyline, and assigned role.
- Perform scripted scenes and work collaboratively with the ensemble.
- Remain in character throughout interactive portions of the dinner-theater experience.
- Supporting roles may mingle with guests and deliver verbal clues based on a provided outline.
Requirements
- Rocco Marconi: Male, approximately 40–50. Angelo’s younger brother and right-hand man. Tall, dark, handsome, and known to have a temper.
- Maria Marconi: Female, approximately 40. Angelo’s second wife. Attractive and appears to be mourning her husband.
- Gino Lombardi: Male, approximately 50–65. Accountant for the family business and a longtime friend of Angelo who stays away from its violent side.
- Angela “Angel” Marconi: Female, 20–29. Angelo’s daughter from his first marriage. Young, pretty, rebellious, and a party girl who frequents the best nightclubs.
- Mickey O’Toole: Male, approximately 25–35. Angel’s boyfriend and the son of a rival gang leader. Good-looking, young, rebellious, cocky, and brash. An Irish accent may be required.
- Burt Westwood: Male, approximately 40–65. Police captain who is bureaucratic and somewhat self-important but understands police business and has connections.
- Aldo: Male, approximately 55–65. Maître d’ and manager of Angelo’s restaurant. Well-dressed, professional, and loyal to the restaurant and family.
- Two Henchmen: Approximately 30–50. Professional bodyguard/security types who are well-dressed and comfortable portraying intimidating security characters.
- Waitresses: Adult performers of any age. Professionally presented and comfortable mingling with guests in costume while discreetly delivering verbal clues.
- Additional Restaurant Staff: Adult performers of any age for roles including coat check girl, doorman, and bartenders. Must be comfortable interacting with guests and potentially delivering clues.
- Interactive supporting performers should be comfortable improvising from a provided outline.
- Must be able to participate in the production’s rehearsal schedule.
