Job Description

This is an opportunity to play a critical role in the digital evolution of the NBC News Group, specifically in the support of our Direct to Consumer products for NBC News Digital, such as CNBC Pro and Jim Cramer’s Investor Club.

  • As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering, you will partner with the Product, Operations, Design, and Editorial teams to bring NBC News Digital content to life. You will be a significant influence on our product roadmap, bringing a technical and strategic perspective. You will be a steward of both our technical and overall culture. We are looking for a technical leader to manage software engineers working on a variety of technical systems for NBCUniversal News Digital.
  • You have experience managing complex technical projects and/or leading a team of engineers. You release early and often, and you’ve put the systems in place to do that safely and reliably. You know the business impact of your work. You are an excellent debugger of problems.
  • This role will report into the Director of Engineering (Direct to Consumer).
  • Manage a team of software engineers working anywhere in our stack e.g. front end rendering layers, our content management systems, APIs, etc.
  • Partner with product managers, technical program managers and business stakeholders on a cross-functional team to drive projects forward, provide leadership, and communicate vision to the team
  • Manage technical risk and promote responsible innovation
  • Hire the best talent for your team, set expectations, manage performance of your reports
  • Bring and support technical vision that aligns with product and business goals

Be accountable for the overall planning, execution, and success of complex projects

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • 8+ years’ experience in software development or related field(s)
  • 2+ years recent experience of technical leadership and/or people management
  • BS (or higher, e.g., MS, or PhD) in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent technical experience
  • Comfortable with a variety of languages and frameworks and willing to learn new ones
  • Successful track record of on-time delivery of projects
  • Excellent debugger and problem solver
  • Thoughtful and compassionate leader
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must submit an attestation disclosing your COVID-19 vaccination status and, if partially or fully vaccinated, submitting your vaccination record no later than 7 days following commencement of employment.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Working directly with CNBC reporters, anchors, producers, editors and photographers
  • Assisting producers at live locations across Washington, DC including Capitol Hill and the White House
  • Pitching and reporting your own stories for CNBC.com
  • Collaborating on podcast production
  • Contributing to social media efforts across all platforms
  • Monitoring and transcribing live events

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the length of the program.
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by NBCUniversal.
  • Must be willing to work in Washington, DC.

Desired Characteristics

  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Strong interest in the media industry; knowledge of business news is a plus.  
  • Commitment to building an inclusive work environment.    
  • Ability to multitask and highly organized.   
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.   
  • Previous internship experience or college/university leadership; newsroom environment preferred.
