Netflix’s revival of A Different World revisits the cultural legacy of Hillman College, decades after the original 1987 series redefined Black representation on television. Although the original show never filmed in Georgia, it drew visual and thematic inspiration from Atlanta’s HBCU community. Now, filming in Atlanta brings the project full circle, anchoring it in a city synonymous with Black excellence in both education and entertainment.
