Leonardo DiCaprio’s next feature film, ‘The Revenant’ is ramping up production and casting talent to appear in the movie.
Leonardo DiCaprio will star as a fur trapper who is left for dead in the wilderness of early 19th century North America. The movie will be directed by Oscar nominee Alejandro González Iñárritu, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film will be DiCaprio’s follow-up to the critically acclaimed Martin Scorsese comedy The Wolf of Wall Street.
THE REVENANT is an adaptation of the Michael Punke novel The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge, is the story of a 19th century fur trapper, Hugh Glass, who gets mauled by a grizzly bear. Near death, the terrain makes it impossible for his colleagues to carry him back to their fort. They leave him for dead but he survives and sets out on a treacherous journey to exact revenge on those who betrayed him and left him for dead. The Revenant will feature Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy.
Casting directors held an open casting call in Santa Fe, New Mexico last month. Now producers are casting talent in British Columbia and Alberta, Canada. Classic Casting will hold an open casting call for extras on Aug. 9 near the food court at Marlborough Mall, in Calgary, Alberta from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
According to the casting call notice, white men who “need to have good character looks, and need to have some facial hair” to portray trappers. Also sought are adult Native men and women, slim with long hair. Horse-riding experience would also be beneficial. Classic is also looking for boys between 10 and 18 years old, with long hair. In addition, amputees and people with scars and unusual, interesting characteristics are being sought.
UPDATE:
Another casting call for The Revenant is set for January, and this time they are looking for aboriginal extras between the ages of 16 to 60 in Calgary, Alberta.
The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, “centers on the 1820s’ story of a frontiersman, Hugh Glass, who set out on a path of vengeance against those who left him for dead after a bear mauling.” Tom Hardy and Will Poulter also star.
The movie’s next casting call will be held at the Lethbridge Lodge, 320 Scenic Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 10, 2015.
The movie is expected to shoot from Jan. 20 to mid-April in the Calgary area.
