Wonder Woman is one of the biggest movies of 2017 and thanks in part to Gal Gadot’s acting performance, the movie will most likely change the super hero movie genre forever. But, in a recent interview, Gadot revealed that she did not know exactly what film she was auditioning for when she landed the Wonder Woman role. But she believes it is the perfect one for her.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Gadot explained what it was like to audition for Wonder Woman. “It was all very secretive. But without ever knowing it,I think ‘Wonder Woman’ was my dream role. “I grew up watching women playing princesses or damsels in distress. You had Meryl Streep and Charlize Theron but it wasn’t common to see great roles for women,” she says.
Gadot added, that she nearly quit acting after reaching a low point in her career.
“This profession, the rejection… oh dude, it’s tough. I had so many ‘almosts,’ and another camera test, and ‘it’s almost mine,’ and another role, and another role, and I was telling my husband, ‘I’m not sure how long I can take it, dragging my family to Los Angeles, doing this.’ On that same trip when we were in Los Angeles, I got a phone call from Zack Snyder, who wanted to audition me for this secret role. I was like, ‘OK, sure, I’ll do that. The audition went great, I went back to Israel to shoot an Israeli movie, and I didn’t know if I wanted to continue acting afterwards.”
It is a good thing she did audition. She explains what it was like to get the call back.
Gadot added, that two days later, she learned she landed the lead role. “He was like, ‘I don’t know if you have this character in Israel, if she’s big or not, but did you ever hear about Wonder Woman?’ And I was like [mimes fainting].”
