Meet the most famous actor you’ve never heard of.
Guillermo del Toro and his fantasy The Shape of Water won two of the Oscar’s biggest categories at the 90th Academy Awards: Best Director and Best Film. Taking place during Cold War era America in the 1960s, The Shape of Water is a mixture of the 1950s and sci-fi.
The film includes amazing performances from Sally Hawkins as a mute custodian, Octavia Spencer as her opinionated best friend, Michael Shannon as the movie’s villain and Richard Jenkins as Hawkins’ next door neighbor. However one of the movie’s biggest actors is the mysterious sea creature played by Doug Jones. While many people have seen his work, most fans won’t even recognize his face. In fact, Jones has appeared in over 150 film credits playing nearly every type of monster and villain including in Hollywood including Amphibian Man in The Shape of Water, Abe Sapien in Hellboy, and The Faun and The Pale Man in Pan’s Labyrinth, all which have also been directed by del Toro.
