Empire made Taraji P. Henson a household name, but before she became everyone’s favorite leading lady, the recent Golden Globe award-wining actress starred in the 2001 hit movie, Baby Boy.
An audition tape has surfaced showing Taraji P. Henson and her love interest Tyrese, practicing scenes from the movie. From start to finish, Henson shows her commitment to every line. In her now 25-year career, it’s clear that her acting talent was and is still amazing.
Baby Boy centers around Jody, an unemployed young black man, who’s been living with his mother for several years, even though he’s got a child of his own. Romantically, he’s having relationships with two women: Yvette, the mother of his son, and a new interest. The movie was directed by legendary director John Singleton and featured AlexSandra Wright, Tyrese Gibson, and Taraji P. Henson.
Baby Boy did extremely well in the box office earning nearly $30 million dollars off of a $16 million dollar budget. Kenneth Turan, film critic for the Los Angeles Times, praised the film for being “…Compelling…. heartfelt and personal…”
