Chris Hemsworth Reveals He Was Nearly Broke Before Marvel’s “Thor”

Date:

Chris Hemsworth says he was a struggling actor before he landed the role of Marvel’sThor“.

Making it in the entertainment industry is not easy. Just ask Chris Hemsworth. Before making it as an A-list actor and starring in the Marvel “Thor” franchise, Hemsworth was running out of money.

Many top actors have become wealthier joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, Robert Downey, Jr., who is mostly known for indie films in the mid-2000s, made millions after joining the franchise and playing Iron Man. However, for Hemsworth, he was a struggling actor just trying to make it.

Over a decade ago, Hemsworth first came to Hollywood to act in films. Before that, he had seven years of acting experience in Australia.

It is easy to imagine it being easier to survive on an aspiring actor’s salary in Australia than in Los Angeles, where the cost of living is a lot higher. Outside of receiving a small lead role in the first “Star Trek” reboot movie, he had a hard time landing any major acting roles.

His very first U.S. acting job was for an indie film called “Ca$h”, where he was reportedly cast based on his appearance than his acting skills. He then appeared in 2009’s “A Perfect Getaway” and that’s when Hemsworth found himself in financial trouble.

In an interview with Variety, Hemsworth recounted his experiences during the late 200s. His goal was to help his family financially but thinking about it would make him extremely nervous at auditions to the point where he could not relax and anxiety became a big problem in his life.

This may have cost him being cast in “G.I. Joe” and playing Gambit in the “X-Men” movies. Of course, since then, he has learned to be more confident and look more relaxed than his competitors.

Yet, the pressure of being an actor can become extremely frustrating. Losing out on these auditions put Hemsworth in a scary place financially. For a time, he was not sure he would be able to stay in Los Angeles as he began running out of money. Being cast as Thor was a dream come true, but surely not the only story where an actor nearly gave up before landing a big role.

According to reports, Hemsworth net worth is now in the upper million figures, with some estimates suggesting $100 million.
