Here is the reason why we will never see a black or gay Spider-Man. EVER.
Spider-Man movies maybe stuck in a cliche. In a society where anti-heroes are the most popular characters on television, Marvel and Sony may have drawn their biggest super hero into a box.
Now according to recent reports, the reason why Spider-Man has remained the same after all these years is due to a contractual obligation.
It is important to point out that Spider-Man is a fictional character living in a fictional universe fighting, fighting fictional villains. Therefore, it is irrational to say that Spider-Man has to be straight or has to be white. But a legal licensing agreement between entertainment giants Sony Pictures and Marvel, released during the leak of the former, shows that the superhero absolutely cannot be certain things, including black or gay. These are mandatory and forbidden traits written out my lawyers and mandated by Hollywood producers.
Several years ago, Donald Glover (Magic Mike XXL) campaigned to be the next Spider-Man. But, Sony Pictures eventually let those rumors die down and Glover was instead given a voice-acting opportunity in the cartoon version of Miles Morales. Now, we can understand why – it would have been due to a breach in the racial superhero contract.
