Vin Diesel is steering the Fast & Furious franchise back to where it all started—Los Angeles. In a heartfelt social media post, the star revealed that the upcoming Fast X: Part 2 will finish filming in the City of Angels, marking a meaningful return to the series’ original backdrop 25 years after the first film revved its engines.
“Last week, during the fires that displaced LA… my sister Jordana reached out to me and said… Please have Universal film the rest of Fast X Part 2 in LA,” Diesel wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of himself with longtime co-star Jordana Brewster. “Los Angeles needs it now more than ever… Los Angeles is where Fast and Furious started filming 25 years ago… and now Fast will finally return home. All love…”
The decision follows devastating wildfires that have battered Southern California, displacing families and impacting local businesses. By shifting production to Los Angeles, Diesel and Brewster aim to provide both an economic boost and a symbolic gesture of support for a region that has been at the heart of the franchise since 2001’s The Fast and the Furious.
A Finale in the Works
The Fast & Furious saga is hurtling toward its conclusion. Last year, Diesel confirmed that the franchise’s next installment would be its last, posting on Instagram, “Just finished our end of the week Fast meeting with the writers and the whole team… to say the excitement for our finale was incredibly powerful is an understatement. Wow. So exciting…”
He went on to thank fans “for being the backbone of this global saga,” adding, “This grand finale is not just an ending, it’s a celebration of the incredible family we’ve built together.”
Diesel later hinted that Universal might be eyeing a March 2026 release date for Fast X: Part 2, noting in November 2024, “I have Comcast in the other ear saying we need two movies to be the Finale! Then the writer on Fast Five sent me this image and said we need to see DOM and HOBBS resolve their differences.”
While the franchise has evolved from illegal street races in downtown Los Angeles to high-stakes heists across the globe, Diesel emphasized a desire to return to its roots: “I just want to get back to real street racing, practical stunts… and a reunion of that beautiful brotherhood.”
Coming Full Circle
Launching in 2001 with a modest car-culture drama, the Fast & Furious series has exploded into a global phenomenon grossing over $6 billion worldwide. Its diverse cast and themes of family have been a cornerstone since the beginning, and bringing production full circle to Los Angeles serves as both an emotional touchstone and a commitment to giving back.
With filming set to wrap in LA, fans can expect Fast X: Part 2 to bring the Toretto crew’s story home in more ways than one. As Diesel wrote, “Los Angeles is where Fast and Furious started filming 25 years ago… and now Fast will finally return home.” Whether this truly marks the final lap or sets the stage for more high-octane adventures remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the Fast & Furious family is reuniting on the streets that started it all.
About the Fast & Furious Franchise
Launched in 2001 with The Fast and the Furious, this high-octane series has evolved from an underground street-racing saga to a globe-trotting action phenomenon. Featuring a diverse ensemble led by Vin Diesel, the franchise places a premium on themes of loyalty, found family, and high-stakes adventure. Over the years, the crew has been pitted against international crime syndicates, cyberterrorists, and even rogue government agents, raking in more than $6 billion at the global box office.
Notable for its elaborate automotive stunts, Fast & Furious has consistently pushed the boundaries of on-screen action—with cars parachuting from planes, racing on ice floes, and leaping between skyscrapers. Despite the scope and spectacle, the beating heart of the series remains its sense of camaraderie, often played out around backyard barbecues where familial bonds are as strong as any supercharged engine. As the series races toward its epic conclusion, fans continue to celebrate the adrenaline-fueled storytelling, inclusive cast, and the steadfast message that no matter how wild the ride gets, family always comes first.
