‘Walking Dead’ Season 7 Ratings Plummet After Season Premiere

Date:

The Walking Dead ratings continue to fall since the season premiere.

The Walking Dead nearly hit series high ratings with the Season 7 premiere, but over five million people have stopped watching the show since then.

About 17 million viewers tuned in to watch the Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead. That’s a a lot of people.

In the episode, Negan kills several beloved cast members. It was the payoff to one of the biggest cliffhangers in television history. But, after finding the answer to the mystery, many people were not that interested in seeing what was going to happen next week.

According to the Undead Walking, the follow-up episode where Carl and Morgan visit the Kingdom, the episode had 12.5 million viewers. That is still very high in terms of TV ratings, but it also means 4.5 million people stopped watching The Walking Dead.

The next week, where Daryl listens to “Easy Street” for an entire episode, AMC reports 11.72 million veiwers watched the show. This pushes the total loss of viewers over 5 million. They are still very high in comparison to other shows, but it is a trend showing that people are losing interest in The Walking Dead.

Rick Porter, who serves as editor of TV By the Numbers, wrote in a released statement that this is hardly “disastrous” and not “unheard of.”

However, the series never dropped off more than 12.4% of its premiere audience before, but that figure is starting to double, according to recent reports.

So it begs the question – why are people no longer watching The Walking Dead?

At the end of the day, The Walking Dead is still the most watched show on television even with a drop in ratings. In addition, AMC has already renewed the show for Season 8. But it’s almost certain that the show will run for at least several more seasons after that. If the show continues to use the graphic novels as source material, then there are a lot of stories left to tell. The focus of the story is changing in Season 7 and it is no longer about walkers anymore. It’s all about survival of the fittest. The Walking Dead may be in its 7th season but it’s not going anywhere for a long time.
