At least 10 TV shows are expected to film in Chicago this year.
Chicago will have at least 10 scripted TV shows filming in Chi-Town over the next year. NBC has picked up the fourth series in the Dick Wolf produced Chicago franchise. Chicago Justice joins Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med on the network’s slate. NBC announced the pickup on Thursday, the day after the “backdoor pilot” for Chicago Justice aired as an episode of P.D.
Fox also announced series pickups for two new Chicago-filmed series to join Empire. The Exorcist, which is a modern take on demons and exorcism, and A.P.B, which centers around a billionaire who privatizes a Chicago police station. Both TV shows filmed their TV pilots here in the city and the Chicago Film Office told the Tribune last week that the series will be based here as well.
Netflix series Sense8 will also film part of their second season in Chicago starting this June, and a new Amazon Prime series, Patriot, is also starting up production in Chicago. Shameless, which was renewed for a seventh season on Showtime, will also film in Chicago.
This is great news for Chicago actors and crews as the number of productions in the Midwest more than doubles. And it looks as though Chicago is planning for even more TV shows and movies in the future as Cinespace, the major film studio in Chicago, is planning on adding six new soundstages to their existing 24.
