Twitter users go to the movies more often and know about more movies than the average moviegoer.
Twitter is going to become Hollywood’s new best friend. According to a recent study, Twitter users go to the movies more often that average Americans, and are twice as likely to see a movie within 10 days of its opening.
In a survey conducted by Nielsen, Twitter users said they plan to see five movies this summer, that is 25% more than the average moviegoer. In addition, they are 87% more likely than non-users to go see a movie within the first 10 days of its opening and 340% more likely than non-users to have seen more than 12 movies in theaters over the last six months.
In addition, on average, 58% of Twitter users were aware of 19 upcoming summer movies included in the survey in comparison with 41% of non-users.
The goal of the study was to show Hollywood that Twitter is a valuable arena for promoting a movie. The company ran a similar study with Nielsen last year and found 87% of Twitter users said their most recent decision to see a movie in the theater was influenced by what other people tweeted.
Universal is known for using Twitter to promote their movies. ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,’ ‘Furious 7’ and ‘Unfriended,’ where all heavily marketed on Twitter.
