‘Welcome to Death Row’ is going to be the sequel to the ‘Straight Outta Compton’ sequel.
The wildly successful N.W.A. biopic that spent the last three weeks as the number one movie in the box office, Straight Outta Compton, has inspired several spinoffs and sequels. Shortly after Daz Dillinger told TMZ that a Compton sequel centered on Snoop Dogg and Tupac was already in development, a representative from Universal ended that rumor quickly by saying he has no idea what Daz Dillinger was talking about.
However, Straight Outta Compton sequel fever has continued to spread across the hip hop community. Now, Master P is currently casting lead roles for his new biopic and according to reports, Welcome to Death Row is currently in pre-production. The new sequel is being shopped as a potential sequel, with a deal intended to include both the film and the book of the same name. According to the Hollywood Reporter, no necessary music rights are currently affiliated with Welcome to Death Row, though a similar situation originally faced Compton before rights were secured in 2002.
S. Leigh Savidge, the writer and director behind Welcome to Death Row, was also heavily involved in the story development process for Straight Outta Compton.
Welcome to Death Row centers on the years after N.W.A.’s formation, including detailed explorations of the lives of Tupac, Snoop, and Suge Knight.
