‘Straight Outta Compton’ director, F. Gary Gray is in talks to direct the new Fast and Furious 8.
After searching for a director to work on the next Furious 8 movie, following reports that the directors didn’t want to work with Vin Diesel, sources close to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is currently in negotiations with F. Gary Gray. According to reports, Gray was chosen over such directors as Louis Leterrier, Adam Wingard and William Eubank.
The search for a director all started after efforts to convince Furious 7 director James Wan decided not to return for Furious 8. The search went public after The Hollywood Reporter reported on how difficult it was finding a director to work with Vin Diesel.
Vin Diesel took to Facebook to suggest that he should direct the next Furious 8 movie. Then, on Monday, Gray met with Vin Diesel, who does not have director approval rights but is consulted on all major decisions involving the franchise. After the meeting, Diesel posted a photo of himself with a smiling Gray on his Facebook page.

Producers are currently for the next Furious 8 movie are currently looking for a filmmaker that can handle over the top action sequences with some of the larger than life personalities. That includes Vin Diesel, who worked with F. Gary Gray 12 years ago in the movie A Man Apart.
This summer’s Straight Outta Compton was a passion project years in the making. The movie opened to strong reviews and made $160 million in the United States alone.
