After a rocky production start, Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s comic series ‘The Sandman’ is picking up fast, following its 2022 first season premiere. Here’s the low-down on everything you need to know about this hotly-anticipated second season.

Production Resumes After Pause

Following actors and writers strikes that put a temporary snag in the production schedule, things are back on track for ‘The Sandman’ season two. The silver lining of this delay? New cast additions that are set to make the second installment even more exciting.

Casting News Updates

In recent weeks, new cast members have been unveiled, adding fresh talents to the diverse pool of stars. Newbies include Esmé Creed-Miles as Delirium, Adrian Lester as Destiny, and Barry Sloane as The Prodigal.

More recently, an additional unveiling introduced us to Ruairi O’Connor as Orpheus, Freddie Fox as Loki, and Clive Russell as Odin. Fans of Netflix’s ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ will also spot a familiar face with Laurence O’Fuarain playing Thor, and ‘Game of Thrones’ alum Jack Gleeson playing the malevolent Puck.

On top of this, the likes of Indya Moore, Steve Coogan, Ann Skelly, and Douglas Booth will be portraying a range of intriguing characters, from quiet security agents to royal emissaries from the court of Faerie.

What’s Next for ‘The Sandman’?

Fans of Gaiman’s graphic novel will know that there’s plenty to look forward to in season two. Netflix promises new episodes exploring more stories of the Endless, following the escapades of cosmic being Sandman, who escapes after being held captive for more than 100 years.

While Netflix doesn’t quite label it as “season 2”, for simplicity, that’s how we’ll refer to it here. Rest assured though, this season promises to meet expectations, with a heady mix of rich character stories, dark fantasy, and elements of myth.

Also back for season two are original cast members Tom Sturridge, Kirby, Mason Alexander Park, and Donna Preston. They’ll be joined by returning co-stars Patton Oswalt, Gwendoline Christie, Jenna Coleman, and many more.

The trio of Neil Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg continue their roles as executive producers, with Heinberg also showrunning. Director Jamie Childs will steer every episode of the upcoming season.

If you’re invested in the world of ‘The Sandman’, it seems there’s a lot to be excited about with this new season. Well-known names and fresh faces will bring the rich, fantastical world of Neil Gaiman’s comic series to life on the Netflix screen.
