According to sources, Sean “Diddy” Combs is vying for a majority stake in BET and has taken steps toward making this ambition a reality.
Sean “Diddy” Combs has thrown his hat in the ring for a majority stake in BET Media Group by joining an impressive lineup of industry elites, including Tyler Perry and Byron Allen. This news comes as reported by Variety.
After rumors surfaced that Paramount Global was considering selling the entertainment company, news has confirmed this event. Jermaine Combs, a successful record executive and multi-faceted entrepreneur is “exploring the opportunity to purchase BET as a part of his strategy to build a Black-owned global media powerhouse,” anonymous sources close to the music genius have reported to the outlet.
According to other reliable sources, Combs has yet to negotiate with Paramount. Likewise, the potential buyers have yet to desire a majority stake in this powerful entertainment corporation. Combs has had a fantastic partnership with Paramount Global for almost a decade, working on the popular MTV series Making the Band from 2002 to 2009.
Combs’ Revolt network boasts an impressive viewership of 80 million households; however, the largest cable provider in its category is BET, with a staggering reach of 125 million homes. Combs could amplify the reach of both networks if he were to purchase BET, unifying them under one roof.
According to insiders of The Hollywood Reporter familiar with Paramount, the company is projected to maintain a professional relationship with BET’s prospective purchaser. Scott Mills is the CEO of BET Media Group, an umbrella company comprising networks such as BET and VH1, production studio group bet Studios, and streaming service Bet+.
