Redbox Signs TikTok Partnership to Stream Popular Videos and Display Ads on Over 3,000 DVD Rental Kiosks.
Redbox, the renowned DVD kiosk provider, has found a fresh way to captivate audiences and generate additional revenue through an exciting collaboration with TikTok, the short-form video platform owned by China’s ByteDance. This strategic agreement entails TikTok curating “top content” from its app, which will be featured on over 3,000 video screens across Redbox kiosks throughout the United States. Moreover, brands can purchase advertising space alongside engaging TikTok content.
Established in 2002, well before the advent of video streaming, Redbox was acquired by Chicken Soup for Soul Entertainment in a stock transaction valued at approximately $370 million last year. Currently, Redbox boasts a network of roughly 31,000 kiosks nationwide.
Philippe Guelton, the Chief Revenue Officer of Crackle Connex, a division of CSSE, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This new partnership provides advertisers a unique opportunity to reach new audiences and drive engagement. Our Redbox kiosks are strategically positioned in high-traffic locations frequented by millions of shoppers, such as grocery stores and value retailers. We eagerly anticipate expanding this partnership with TikTok as our digital out-of-home network grows.”
Dan Page, TikTok’s Head of Global Distribution for New Screens, highlighted the significance of the collaboration, saying, “People come to TikTok to experience the entertainment, joy, and creativity of our community, and we are excited to extend that experience to Redbox kiosks. This partnership enables us to combine the power of our exceptional content with the prominent visibility of Redbox kiosk locations, resulting in an effective and innovative advertising approach.”
In addition to Redbox, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment operates the ad-supported video service Crackle, Redbox Free Live TV (a free ad-supported streaming television service) with nearly 180 channels, and a transaction video-on-demand (TVOD) service. The company is creating, acquiring, and distributing films and TV series through its subsidiaries, Screen Media and Chicken Soup for the Soul TV Group. Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment is a subsidiary of Chicken Soup for the Soul LLC, renowned for its publication of the famous book series and pet food production under the Chicken Soup for the Soul brand.
