– The film's success at the box office remains uncertain

The long-awaited reboot of The Crow is finally set to land in in a few days, after a journey full of twists, turns, and several changes in direction. However, the new adaptation of this cult classic has not been warmly received by everyone, including members of the original film's team.

Unexpected Resistance to the Reboot

Producer Molly Hassell confided that the resistance from the original film's crew and fanbase to the new version has caught her off guard. In her conversation with The Hollywood (THR), she said, “I'm surprised it hasn't made the original filmmakers more proud.” Hassell believes this updated version of The Crow embraces timeless themes of and loss but in a fresh and necessary approach.

The original director of the famed 1994 version, Alex Proyas, publicly expressed concerns. Earlier this year, he used social media to express his views that The Crow should remain the legacy of late actor Brandon Lee. Lee tragically died while filming the original and was identified as the spirit of the film. Proyas is certain it should stay that way.

Individuals Who Saw The Reboot Early Are Not Impressed

Cliff Dorfman, who was previously attached to write the reboot's script, apparently had a chance to see the movie earlier this summer. His harsh words describe it as “horrible” and “unwatchable.”

This reboot stars talented actors and FKA twigs. It's been brought to under the direction of Rupert Sanders, with Zach Baylin and William Schneider as scriptwriters. This modern take on James O'Barr's original graphic novel narrates the tragic tale of soulmates Eric Draven and Shelly Webster. After the couple are brutally murdered, Eric is given a chance to save his love by avenging their deaths.

Different Path, Same Destination

Co-writer William Schneider voiced his experiences growing up with the original film as a “touchstone” for him. However, he stated that he and fellow writer Zach Baylin aimed to chart a new direction in this story. They wanted to offer a new perspective and establish their own voices while respecting the original film's legacy.

In the face of all the negative press, only time will tell whether The Crow can overcome the challenges and fly high at the box office. Its release on 23rd does not foresee it dethroning any recent blockbusters. Despite the trials, the team behind The Crow's reboot hopes of the original film and newcomers alike will appreciate their effort in reimagining this classic tale.

Let's keep the optimism high and hopes even higher for the remake of The Crow. After all, it's a tribute to a timeless story that captured and continues to hold onto many hearts. Expect to experience a new journey into love, loss and epic revenge with Eric and Shelly. Tune in to your nearest on August 23rd. Maybe you will find the crow's flight worth your time.
