The Vampire Diaries showrunner, Julie Plec, has spoken out about the end of vampire series.
Despite rumors that one of the main cast members could leave at the end of Season 6, Julie Plec revealed that she is pretty positive. Plec explained to FanBolt that:

Right now I feel like we’re in a really good creative groove. The show feels really good, and we all as writers, and the actors, are really jazzed about the content and excited about the stories that we’re telling. In a way, it’s come back around to season one in terms of its feeling and grounding it all in relationships and characters – and suspense and tension. So I feel like we can keep going. We’ve got people ready and willing to keep going
So, if all of the characters are willing to continue working on The Vampire Diaries, what does the showrunner think will happen at the end of the show?
According to Plec, everything comes down to Elena’s character because, she is the center that holds the show together. She explained:
I don’t really want to talk about the end game of Elena’s character. I think that is the end game of the series. I don’t want to give that up
