Natalie Portman Expresses Interest in Reprising Role as Padmé in ‘Star Wars’
Natalie Portman has revealed her willingness to return to the Star Wars universe and portray the character Padmé Amidala again. Portman, who originally played the role 24 years ago in Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace, stated that she is open to the opportunity if Lucasfilm extends an invitation.
During an “Actually Me” session on Reddit, as part of GQ’s series, a user inquired about the possibility of Portman reprising her character in an upcoming film or television project. Portman responded, “No one’s ever asked me to return, but I’m open to it.”
Although Padmé’s storyline concluded in Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith, the idea of her return is not far-fetched. Both Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker and Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi appeared in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, 17 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith. Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn from Episode 1: The Phantom Menace also came back in the series, further indicating the possibility of Padmé’s revival.
While Padmé’s story has not yet continued in live-action on screen, it has been expanded through a trilogy of young adult books and the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. With the return of these characters mentioned above and Padmé’s presence in other forms of media, the chances of Portman receiving the call to return seem promising.
