Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson Could Star in ‘Jumanji’ Reboot

Date:

Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson are in talks to star in the upcoming Jumanji reboot.

It looks as though Central Intelligence and MTV Movie Awards co-hosts might be working on another movie together. According to Variety, Dwayne “The Rock Johnson” and Kevin Hart could be hired to star as the leads in the upcoming reboot of Jumanji, the 1995 Robin Williams movie about a board game that affects the real world. Jumanji is based on the 1981 story of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg.

Jane Kasdan is directing the reboot, with a release scheduled for July 28, 2017 and production to start this August.

According to reports, Dwayne Johnson’s next movie Rampage recently delayed production until next year. Meanwhile, Kevin Hart is doing a remake of a French comedy-drama The Untouchables alongside Bryan Cranston this summer, so that could complicate the schedule.

Jumanji centers around a 12-year-old Alan Parrish, who becomes trapped in a board game while playing with his best friend Sarah Whittle in 1969. Twenty-six years later, siblings Judy and Peter Shepherd find the game and begin playing and then unwittingly release the now-adult Alan. After tracking down Sarah, the quartet resolve to finish the game in order to reverse all of the destruction it has caused.

The original Jumanji movie was shot in Keene, New Hampshire, representing the story’s fictional town of Brantford, New Hampshire. Additional filming took place in Vancouver, British Columbia. The film was released on December 15, 1995. Despite its lukewarm critical reception, it was a box office success, earning $262,797,249 worldwide on a budget of approximately $65 million and was the 10th highest-grossing movie of 1995.
