Academy Award-winning actress Helen Mirren is going to appear in the new Fast & Furious 8 movie, which is now filming in Atlanta, Georgia.
In an interview with Elle, Mirren confirmed she’s going to be in Fast 8 while talking about her role in the new film Eye in the Sky. “I like to be serious,” said Mirren. “Of course, having said that I’m about to do Fast and Furious 8.”
“But that’s for the fun of it,” Mirren continued. “So maybe that’s what I want as well, some fun and some relevant, serious, important movies.”
Mirren is mostly known for appearing in dramatic roles, having been nominated for an Academy Award four times and winning the award for Best Actress in 2006’s The Queen.
“I’ve always rather loved driving,” said Mirren of taking the Fast and the Furious role. “I said, ‘I’ll be in it, but only if I’m allowed to drive if I do drive in it.’ But we’ll see.”
Mirren revealed that she was hoping to appear in the new movie in an interview with Yahoo, saying, “My great ambition is to be in a Fast and Furious movie. I so want to be a mad driver in a Fast and Furious movie. My claim to fame is I always do my own driving — I was on Top Gear, and I did [my lap] in a very good time. I keep putting it out there, and they never ask me. I’ll be in Fast and Furious 8. I have to say Vin Diesel is brilliant. I love Vin Diesel. He’s a great guy, smart — I love him. It’s partly because of him I’d like to be in one, but also the driving.”
A few months later, Vin Diesel, told MTV, indicated Mirren’s hope could become a reality, saying, “I think everyone should do the franchise. They’ve gotta get in line behind Helen Mirren. She is on the list. Be careful what you wish for, Helen.”
No details surrounding Mirren’s character have been revealed, however, it is rumored she will play the mother of one of the main characters in the movie franchise.
