Marvin Gaye’s son asserts that ‘Empire’ was his idea and is now planning to sue the creators of the hip-hop drama.
Gaye’s show, titled “Diamonds & Ballads.” was said to have been pitched to various TV executives, including ones with ties to “Empire” co-creator Lee Daniels.
According to reports, Marvin Gaye’s son is going to sue the creators of Fox’s ‘Empire’, claiming he had the idea for a similar sounding series several years ago.
According to TMZ, Marvin Gaye III claims he registered a treatment for a show about a black family in the music business -to the Writers Guild of America in 2010.
Gaye’s attorney tells TMZ he plans to file a lawsuit against Daniels, Fox and others. The legal threat follows as the Gaye family beat Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams over the hit song “Blurred Lines.” The unnamed attorney commented, “We understand that three things can’t be hidden for long: the Sun, the Moon and the Truth!”
Marvin Gaye may have to wait in line. Recently, a woman claiming to be the real “Cookie Lyons” filed a lawsuit against the creators of ‘Empire’ arguing they stole her idea.
