Joe Pesci Turns Down Role in Scorsese’s ‘The Irishman’

Date:

Joe Pesci has just turned down Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman

Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman is one of the most anticipated movies of 2017-2018. During the Cannes Film Festival studio STX paid $50 million for the international rights to the Scorsese movie and it is expected to earn over $100 million in theaters. The source of all of the anticipation is the movie’s cast, which includes Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel. However, it appears one of those actors are leaving.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joe Pesci has reportedly turned down Scorsese’s offer for a role in the movie. But, it is important to point out that Pesci has pretty much quit acting and hasn’t appeared in a movie in nearly 7 years. In fact, his last movie was Love Ranch directed by Taylor Hackford, which flopped in the theaters and has a horrible rating on Rotten Tomatoes. And Scorsese is not the only director interested in working with the actor. Last month, Louis C.K. revealed he contacted Pesci for his indie web-series Horace and Pete and not only did Pesci turn down Louis C.K., he gave some harsh criticism of the comedian – “I watched your stand-up, which I can tell you’re just trying, and you’re no good at it…quit that now”

Will The Irishman be made without Pesci? Of course, but you have to bet the biggest reason STX paid $50 million was to have an all star cast and bring back the trio behind Goodfellas,” “Casino,” and “Raging Bull.”

That being said, Scorsese still hopes to convince Pesci and get him to appear in the movie, and if anybody can convince the actor to start working again, it’s likely going to be his old friend Martin Scorsese.
