Rediscovering Riley in ‘Inside Out 2’
Riley is back in Inside Out 2. Now a teenager, she is played by Kensington Tallman. We find the emotions inside Riley’s head in chaos. Existing emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Tony Hale), Disgust (Liza Lapira) – are grappling with emerging ones – Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser) . These newcomers shake up things in Riley’s Mind Space as she navigates her tumultuous teens.
A Deep-Dive into the Inside Out 2 Plot (Spoiler Alert!)
Riley joins a Hockey camp after an influential coach spots her potential. As she explores new experiences with friends, Riley starts experiencing the impacts of maturity and mood swings. The new emotions take control, clouding her judgment and driving her actions. However, friction intensifies as the old emotions get sidelined, unable to influence Riley.
The CinemaCon preview was a comedic delight, with Riley exhibiting over-the-top emotions during her adolescence. Director Kelsey Mann succeeds in accurately representing the complexities of a young girl’s transition into womanhood. Riley becomes increasingly overwhelmed, making risky life choices when Anxiety takes over from Joy, the self-proclaimed boss of Riley’s Mind Space.
Anxiety emerges as a negative force, allowing fear and apprehension to influence Riley’s decisions. The preview concludes with the new emotions confining Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, throwing them into the recesses of Riley’s mind. Here, they encounter new characters who promise to assist in their escape.
Without revealing more about these characters, it’s safe to say they bring fresh plot twists and humor to the film.
